hunting with 22's

What do you typically hunt with a 22?

Im curious. What kind of ammo and range?

Squrriels. 50 yards usually and blazer bulk. Head shot!

Ground Squirrels leaving holes in a friend's pasture(/field?) @~100-250yd, they do, I have to try next time.

I read that some people 86 prairie dogs, and gophers.

I even heard of people putting coyotes down if they come too close to their home.

Coyotes are what peaked my interest and thats why i asked! Anybody have actual coyote stories?

I have shot many coyotes with a 22lr. When you shoot one with a 22lr you can count on them running a ways. I grew up on a dairy where the ground was flat for miles around. they typically run 30 to 100 yds. with the flat fields it was easy to watch them drop and go pick them up. But where I live now in in the foot hills. If they run more than 30 yds they get real hard to find. They are still dead, you just cant find them. DR

This season my uncle shot a coyote while we were at camp eating dinner. One shot to the shoulder at around 35 yard. Drt. I use 22 for squirrels, but i like the magnums.

Yup! Took my one and only with a 22mag. Savage 93fvss CCI TNT Greens and 120yards give or take. Not a 22lr but still a rimfire

If you want a clean kill make sure they are good and close. Shoulder or head shot is best.
I've shot both coyotes and bobcats with a .22 but always under 100yrds and way under if possible. Make sure and use a good round like the mini- mag.
