Old Marlin 60 Accuracy saved me from buying a Savage 93r17

I have really had a hankering to buy a savage 93r17 BVSS lately. I just don't want to spend the money on one. Today I decided to test out the accuracy on my dads old Marlin 60, and boy am I glad I did.

About a 9 round group at 100 yards. (I was having a special moment and left my scope on 3x instead of 9x, so I think the fliers would have tightened up if I was on 9x). Just using Blazer bulk packs. That black circle is a 1 inch shoot n see paster

Thought I'd do a little bit of showboating at 100yds, and shoot while I film (scope was on 9x this time!)

Thinking about a new scope, but the next level up from my cheapy wal-mart is a $300 weaver grand slam...

      Nice group!
I've got a 60, my first rifle I bought with my own $ back in the 70's.
It shoot's lights out with the new TechSights that I put on it.

G-man, i had those tech sites on a 10/22 i've parted ways with. They cut my groups in half, amazing.

Ptroxx, you may want to do some research, i think they have had quality control issues since remington took over production.

Though there have been some complaints about canted front sights, they are few and far between. The Marlington 60's and 795's out of KY seem to have made the transition quite well. Any issues with the action, feed and ejection, seem to be due to new owners who fail to give them a thorough breakdown and cleaning before hitting the range. Clean the bore and action completely and check for any debris in the pockets on either side of the chamber where the extractors go when the bolt closes. Marlins like to be run with very little lube. Try various brands of ammo 'til you find one your rifle likes. My 795 hates Remington Gold Bullets and loves anything CCi, especially CCI Standard Velocity. Recently picked up an older Model 60 that I'm cleaning up. Hopefully, it'll like the CCI SV as well. I'd hate to have to stock 2 different types of .22

Try out the CCI Blazer. I get extraction problems with it once and a while, but accuracy is on par with CCI Mini mags, just a whole lot cheaper.
