    Savage MKII FV-SR Build Thread

After posing the question here, at Snipershide, Gunnit and elsewhere, I think I finally have all my parts in transit for my latest build.

Rifle: Savage MK II FV-SR 4 days left on wait.
    Stock: Boyd's Tacticool In hand.
Optic: Weaver Grand Slam Tactical 3-10x40mm Mil/Mil Ordered, delivery 11/27.
Rings: Burris 1" XT Low Ordered, delivery 11/27.
    Caps: Butler Creek #13 & #26 Ordered, delivery 11/27.
Bipod: Snipershide Groupbuy - Check it out. Ordered, delivery 11/26.
Bottom Metal: DIP Ordered, delivery 11/26.
    Muzzle Device: YHM

Left on the list: Assortment of ammo, Pillar/Glass bedding, possibly a cheek riser, 20/25MOA base. I am also going to find a random muzzle device in the Marketplace, I HATE how the thread protector looks on this. Dont need anything special, its standard AR15 threading, I know it will have little/no effect, I just cant stand the thread protector. I thought I could live with it from the pictures, but after seeing it in person, nah-uh.

I will be posting pictures as this gets put together, along with any work done to it (stock fitting / if I decide to try pillar/glass bedding it myself).

    EDIT: Added YHM Muzzle Device

    EDIT: First Pic

Very nice. I will be getting the FV-SR instead of the "TR" to save some green but would like to get that stock later on. The price isn't bad at all.

Yeah I was on the fence about getting the TR until I read the article with the guy doing chrono's of both... There was no velocity difference between the two rifles, even with suppressors on or off. Rather have 16" than the 22" or whatever, saves on weight and easier to lug around.

Do you have to order the floor plate/trigger guard for the stock? I don't know if that's mandatory with the stock or just if it doesn't fit on right.

The barrel will be much shorter, TR has a 22" and the FV SR is 16.5". I also dont have the two side mounted rails.

So it will look more like this:

The DIP bottom metal I have listed is the floorplate and trigger guard.

The stock bottom metal will not fit:

Even if the stock stuff fit, I would still get the DIP.

Update: Got it Monday after the dreaded wait. Immediately dropped it into the Boyds stock with the DIP metal. The standard stock is so craptastic, it felt cheaper than some stocks on old Airsoft guns I had. The bolt is pretty rought to manipulate, think it might be dragging on part of the stock when closing down. Going to take a closer look tomorrow or Thursday before I put the scope on. Everything should be installed and ready to go by Friday. Hoping to range test this weekend if the weather isn't nuts (weather.com says "potential for flooding rains" Sunday...).

Ouuu, looks good! That stock still makes the gun lighter than the the "TR" model?

I would have to weigh it, but I can say this is a very light gun. The stock looks really heart, and it feels solid, but it is very light. I have been told pillar bedding is a good idea to get he most out of this setup because there is a lot of stock compression.

Here is the link. Good read.

                              Here is the quote:
I also checked for velocities from both rifles, with and without the can attached, and the velocities recorded were within just a few feet-per-second, with either rifle. The longer barrel had no velocity advantage, and I also noted no change in velocities with or without the can. All velocities, in either mode, were within the normal variation of the ammunition.
The FV-SR comes with a base (though if you are going to replace it with a 20 or 25MOA base it doesnt matter) and a better (imo) bolt handle.

And I should note I got that stock NIB from a private seller (so it isn't that expensive to have this build), and it dropped right and and the barrel is totally floated. Though as I mentioned there is some stock compression, so pillar/glass bedding is on the horizon.
