i have Gramp's prewar Woodsman. he carried it while exploring for oil in OK, TX, LA and for 20 years in Venezuela. Still shoots wonderfully.

Mosinnagant, I just got a 1955 Remington 513S (it's in "gun jail" for a week more....). How's yours shoot?

I'm not a collector and only bought this one because it has been drilled and tapped for a side mount for old 3/4" scopes. The Weaver B4 on it is trashed, but I have a new, unused Weaver J 2.5X that will fit the same mount, so should be able to shoot it when I get it (my ancient eyesight requires a scope now). These Remingtons cost EXACTLY what a Winchester Model 75 Sporter cost in 1955, according to my old 1955 "Gun Digest"! The cost is VERY different now, tho. The competitive Winchester model will bring about twice what the Remington will. I actually prefer the Remington 500-series action to the Winchester.

I also love C&R .22s and have a bunch. Some of them were new when I bought them. Does that make ME a "curio and relic"? My wife and MD would readily agree to the "relic" part....

You easily could be both a curio and a relic, but thats just part of the fun of growing older...

Mine runs flawlessly. I have never had any issues with it. It will fire any ammunition (22lr) and always cycles smoothly. I used some M-Pro 7 products to get the action working again since it was in a closet for 30+ years.

Older Mossberg 22 bolt rifles are currently hot on the collector-shooter market, there are shooting clubs for old Mossberg 22s---if you're real nice, they might let you sneak in with an older Remington 22...

What about semi-autos? The 151M(b) my dad owns is in near-new condition, the only 151s I've seen on the market were all pretty beat up....

Even though I have plenty of modern rigs, my grand-dads' Remington Model 33 (with rifled bore) gets out at least once a month for a shoot at the range, where it still is the one I shoot best with open irons. Also love the tack-driving capacity of my pre-war Model C Hi-Standard. Cheap, accurate, and one of the best ways to work on technique and good habits.

                            Thanks fellas,

That's it for the "older" stuff tho I've got my eye on a real nice old Hi-Standard pistol.

Had a S&W Model 63 like above, but sadly sold it along the way towards buying a 1969 German Walther PP 22lr---still have that!

Cool Thread! My Dad bought me & my Brother a Remington "speedmaster" model 552. We shot it so much we warped the Barrel, literally. I`m guessing before 1974. Some great looking .22`s here, I like the Pump Savage shown!!! My Stepdad is supposed to give me an early Mossberg Pump .22 someday. Has an Octagon Barrel as well.
Yes I took the pic, no I didn't go swimming!
