I hate my 10/22

I had one when I was a kid, my stepfather got it for me for $149+tax. I shot tens of thousands of rounds through it and I never cleaned it, EVER. I don't even know what happened to it anymore.

Now 15 years later I had to have one again. Got it on sale at Turner's last year for $199.98 and thought it was a score. After tax and DROS it came out to ~$247. It was good for about a year. Then I scored a deal on Valquartsen trigger, $130, and Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 ~$95. Now I'm about to get Boyds' stock for ~$114 shipped, and I'm looking for a bull barrel.

And that is why I hate this thing It supposed to be a cheap plinker, and it's turning out to be the most expensive cheap rifle, WTF?

With that said, does anyone know who has the best price on Green Mountain bull barrel?

Here are couple of pix. I went to zero the scope and had lots of fun with it. Sure, this was done at only 25yd, but I really love the 10 rounds in the bottom left. It should be a tack driver once the barrel and stock are on it.

It is still OK to buy a 10/22 and do absolutely nothing to it other than shoot it.

I feel your pain, I took the plunge on a troy chassis and the TacSol SB-X barrel, among other goodies, even with an absurd amount of money into the thing I'm not done buying parts and accessories for it... Goodbye savings account =D

If you have a FFL03 then you get a discount from brownell's and they have them from $93 for the blued, $111 for the stainless and then $127 and $143 for the fluted barrel.

Aw, Heck! I bought three of the Red Jacket firearms "Zombie Gun" Bull-pup stocks for the 10/22. They tell me I should expect them around mid to late November. I only have one 10/22 to convert. i guess i'll have to buy two more!

You know, I've been holding back on buying a 10/22 for years and after I saw that Bull-pup stock for the 10/22 I almost cried. Now I want one again just for that.

Edit: Never mind, I see you need at least 18.5" barrel to be legal.

Yep. I hate mine for the same reason. I had to kick myself in the @$$ when I realized I was nearing the thousand dollar mark. Sure, I can shoot nickel sized groups at 75 yards, but is it really worth it?

For SHTF, a 10/22 that is a tack driver is a fantastic weapon. It is relatively QUIET, so if you fire it, you won't attract the attention of a gang of thugs a block away. If it is accurate, you don't have to blow the head off of your enemy. Just pop him in one eye or testicle or ankle or elbow, and he is out of the fight, I guarantee it! You can carry HUNDREDS of rounds of 10/22 in your pockets, but only a few dozen rounds of .308 in the same space. The shell casings are too small to get a good fingerprint from, unlike the big "macho" brass which will allow prying eyes to identify the shooter. Do you need more reasons?

Im like you I had one when I was a kid and loved it. I went to buy one recently and found out they destroyed my kid rifle by making everything out of plastic. I dont want no stinking plastic rifle. I want metal like when I was a kid. So I searched GB for an older model that was all metal. Man they were either selling for crazy high prices or the DH wouldnt ship to Cali. I tried to buy 3-4 rifles and got outbid everytime. I thought of buying the plastic rifle and swapping parts but then I would have a 600 dollar 10-22 that was no better than my kid rifle. Screw it!

I finally just gave up and bought an ALL METAL CZ 452 and scoped her up. Now Im shooting dime size groups at 100 yards in the wind and happy as a clam.

The CZ rocks and its so addictive to have the bullets go through the same hole at 100+ yards.

Although doing the trigger is a big improvement in fun factor! Love my 10/22's!

My only suggestion is, don't buy a Harley or a Jeep. Much more expensive add on's
