Good advice to try several different types of ammo. My general favorite is the bulk 525rds from Federal 36grain copper jacketed. I have not had a single FTF (fail to fire) or FTE (fail to eject) from the Federals. I had 100 rounds of the Remington Golden Bullet and had 4 problem rounds, though others find them fine.

The bottom line, have fun, enjoy the 10/22 and find the round that works best for you.

I think for defense, it'd be best to just use the 10/22 as a bat. I don't think you'll be stopping too many people with a .22

I bought a Ruger 10/22 LR and I'm not sure what the recommended, or more accurately what the best ammo for this rifle is. What's good for target practice and best for defense.
        Thanks
        Reddfafner,

I usually use CCI "Blazer" or "Mini Mags" as except for the copper coating they're both the same ammo. Just don't use "Green Tag" cuz that's meant more for target pistols in the semi fashion.

Generally speaking any high velocity ammo will work in the 10-22 rifle. To get the best grouping ammo out of your rifle you need to shoot various brands and see what they group. Then after measureing the best of all of them just use that particular ammo. I've find CCI ammo to be the more consistant of the bunch.

it depends on what your gun likes. mine for example will eat anything, your gun may not.
remington golden bullet is pretty clean imo. like others have said, try out different brands.

just make sure when you clean the gun you don't damage the crown.

Both my 10/22's will eat any ammo. Even Remington Golden bullets.

But my favorite ammo is Federal bulk from Walmart. They group well and are cheap.

I had a problem running winchester 525 bulk through plastic lipped mags (30% ftf) but through the ruger stock metal lipped mags - no problem at all.
I would stick to ruger metal lipped mags and I'll bet it eats everything.
