Scope for Ruger 10/22 Takedown

I was planning on getting the Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40mm Rifle Scope for the 10/22 Takedown (my first gun!) that I recently bought. I chose this scope over the rimfire version so that I can also use it for future rifles I get, but was wondering if anyone had any experience or insight as to how well this setup would work? Thanks!

I don't have a 10/22TD (just lots of 10/22s) but my understanding is that anything over roughly 10-1/2" may be too long to fit in the case. I do know good scopes so here's my reply to another thread on the subject:

For reference I got a Weaver 2.5-7x28mm scope that's 11" long. It barely fits in the bag attached to the 10/22 TD receiver. The inside flap won't close over the butstock but it fits when you close the bag.

I think 11" is the absolute max lenght. YMMV.

Thanks for the help everyone, I'll think about getting the Leupold VX-1 2-7x28mm Rimfire scope instead.

You might have to re-zero your scope everytime you remove and install your barrel.A takedown rifle defeats the purpose of having a tack driver. If you are going to buy a Leopold buy another 10/22 with a .920 barrel and a Volquartson trigger. And get a red dot for the takedown 10/22. Just my .02 cents.

Actually there's alot of folks with the 10/22 takedown that shows you don't have to re-zero when you remove the barrel from the reciever.. One guy I know (who's a good shot) did a test at 100 yards with a scope and did 1.5" groups at 100 yards before and after a breakdown with the scope mounted..no zero needed. Now removing the scope from the reciever? That's another story...

Me? I'm not that good a shot so My Miles Vary...

Also anything after 100 yards may be sketchy on the TD...
