AR-7 or 10/22 Takedown?

One more vote for the TD. While I have an original Armalite AR-7 the takedown appeals to me as well.

I had a TD, and have 10/22's and AR-7's.

The AR-7 is a cool SECOND .22 takedown rifle. Go with the 10/22 first.

Sorry for the late reply, I forgot to check the box to email me on responses...

Basically I saw a good deal on a compact .22 rifle that would be perfect size and weight for my car GHB/BOB. I currently have a Marlin 795 ($139 on sale at Turner's), but always wanted a 10/22. It looks like the 10/22 is better for accuracy and for accessories, the AR-7 is better for size/weight compact-ness.

I think I will hold out for a sale on 10/22 TD.

I have both. I like them equally the same, however I am getting caught up on hanging tons of crap off my TD.

But for utter simplicity, my AR is it. I like the kick and lack of weight. For some reason my AR eats mini mags just as well as the TD. Cleaning the AR is 10 times faster than the TD.

I just cannot do the iron sights on the TD, so I scoped it. The AR feels wrong with a scope, and feels perfect without it.

I did break the spring guide in the AR, but Henry sent me a replacement right away.

Maybe I cherish my AR because it is the one I purchased first, but I have to say Henry has done a fine job with it. If I break mine I will buy another.

I had an older ar-7. I hated that thing. I could not get rid out it fast enough.

I have a review for my AR7 posted somewhere here on CG - mine has been 100% from day one. Of course, my 10/22 Takedown has been as well (go figure). I like the 10/22TD because of the availability of parts like magazines, trigger kits, etc. The AR7 definitely stores more compactly, though.

I just got an AR7 in Woodland Camo, haven't shot it yet. What's the best ammo recommendations? I like the 10/22 Takedown concept (the bag is cool too) but the Henry AR7 is lighter and shorter. Has anyone done the exact spec comparison, weight, length (un assembled), etc.

BTW Ruger has a limited (5000) edition Olympic Ruger 10/22 Takedown. I'm seriously considering this gun, if they're not all gone yet.

for portability and compactness AR hands down, even with the TD taken down, it still eats up quite some space, and if you already have a standard 10/22 its a no brainer, diversify and get the Henry model AR7
