Not even close, the Marlin Model 60 and its variants have outsold the 10/22 by a margin of 2 to 1. Not bashing the 10/22 but over 11 million Model 60s have been sold.

If I could only take one .22 rifle into the woods it would be a Model 60, 15-18 round capacity before reload and with a speed loader, quicker than reloading a detachable magazine. More accurate than any 10/22 out of the box.

AR-7 and 10/22, apples and oranges. 10/22 is much more versatile. AR-7 if you plan to be living in a cave in the near future, otherwise pass on it. Just my opinion.

I have an AR7. I can never recommend one. Get the 10/22 or a marlin.
Son, one day you will make a girl very happy, for a short period of time. Then she will leave you and be with men who are ten times better than you could ever hope to be. These men are called Marines.

Izzy43, just to defend myself, The Marlin 60 was not part of what the thread creator was asking. He was asking to choose between the AR-7 and the Ruger 10/22. Almost no comparison in my mind. In terms of sales, I am sure you are correct being that the Marlin and Glenfield + the other variants were always much cheaper to purchase. I love mine too, however not everyone agrees with tube fed magazines. In other states bigger magazines than the current Marlin 60 can be legally used and that is certainly an advantage to the Ruger. The trigger on the Marlin basically stinks and I can mod my Ruger down to 2#. With very little effort, the 10/22 is more accurate (however not factory out of box). I would buy another Ruger 10/22 and I already have several, but for Marlin, I have a 795 and a 60 and would only buy another Glenfield with 18 round tube fed if it were in good condition. That is my opinion for whatever that is worth.

I would definitely go with the Ruger 10/22. Better overall quality, more aftermarket parts, and shoots better IMO.

If you really want a "takedown" rifle, get the new 10/22 model.

henry mags work in henrys they dont work in charters or survival arms

there is many junk ar-7 magazines out there most over 8 rounds but that doesnt mean the 8 rounders are all good sometimes they are bad too

So what do you have? Henry, Charters, or Survival Arms? Henry has done such a fine job, that I bought one and have been pleasantly surprised. Bought Henry mags too. Fired flawlessly right out of the box. Of course I cleaned and lubed it like it should be.

I take the Henry AR-7 for what it is. If I go to the range, I take the TD. If I go camping, I take the AR. They are both fun though.

Between the AR-7 and 10/22, I'd strongly suggest the 10/22, especially the new takedown model if breaking down into a compact size is important to you. The Ruger is known for great reliability using the factory rotary mags and there are a ton of options if you want to upgrade them.

So far, no much aside from trigger upgrades, mag releases and bolt catch mods for the takedown model, but there may more barrel options in the future. The regular non-takedown models have a ton of barrel options to meet just about every application!
