    AR-7 or 10/22

hey there I'm looking to get a .22 for plinking and just wanted an opinion from my fellow Calgunners. As the thread title says which is preferred by you guys? I like how the AR-7 can be broken down and stored easily while the 10/22 have a lot going for them. So any input would be appreciated

There was an ar-7 thread a while back that myself and others commented in that you might find helpful.

        nimo408,

For plinking purposes I'd get the 10/22 myself. The thought of using an AR-7 is strictly for survival usage only and doesn't add to the plinking fun of it at all.

Well, how about the Ruger 10/22 Take Down. Seems like a good compromise. I like my Rugers and everyone should be required to own one IMO. Lots of Mods, accessories and probably the best selling rifle ever...and for a reason. My 10/22TD fits back into the carry bag they give you with the scope installed and is quite easy to store. It is the type of gun that you will buy and never sell.

The AR-7 seems like a cool novelty, and feels as such, even one from over 10 years ago feels the same, however, I have never shot one, so I cannot state any experience as such.

I love-Love-LOVE my 10/22! It is so accurate people want to shoot it more than my AR. I am contemplating a 10/22TD too.

The 10/22 is kind of a pain to punch the bore, but then again I come from the mil-spec love... The AR-7 would not have this problem, nor would the TD.

              (I don't do bore-snakes...)

                    I had both.

I still have the 10/22, sold the AR-7. Don't plan on selling the 10/22, in fact considering getting a second one.

I have both. I will state that the AR7 has absolutely the worst trigger I've ever put a finger on. Also the mags on the AR7 have many sharp corners which make it a real pain (literally) to load.

With the 10/22 takedown now available, I'd really advise against the AR7. You can keep a scope on the Ruger when it's broken down but can't when you store the AR7 in its stock.

I keep the AR7 in my trunk. If some steals the car, I won't cry over the AR7.

Between the two, the 10/22 TD.

I have the AR7 and am leaning towards another 22 rifle purchase(Still dont have a 10/22), but since I found out the Savage is bring back the model 24(newly named the model 42) I think I will hold out and get it. .22/.410 OU

I agree with this. They're two totally different purpose platforms.

One of my all time favorite guns. Would love to see them re-launch the other flavors like the .223/.20gauge.
