Difference between CMMG uppers?

I've got some AR lowers in jail and am just going to make a .22LR AR out of one of them. Might as well since I've got them. However, I see all kinds of CMMG uppers. What's the difference between them all? Just the FSB/gas block and barrel lengths? I've seen all over to go with the stainless bolt. I'd like to get the BHO option too; can I add that to any of the uppers?

BHO yes but the most common mags are the black dog and they will bolt hold on their own. The cmmg mags suck IME

You haven't used the Gen ll's then.

The only difference in the uppers is the FSB or gas block

The M4 LE has an "F" marked front sight base
The M4 LEP has the receiver height gas block--gives many more options for front sights

The Sierra has a low gas block.

I always recommend the stainless. It's stronger, smoother, uses less lube and stays cleaner longer.

The Gen ll modular mags are required for BHOA use.
The BHOA will drop into any of the CMMG uppers.

The Gen l BHOA mags worked well in the beginning. I still use some. The later ones were out of spec and had issues hanging up. Also sucked to load.

Dunno I had gen 1 or 2. Sucky. I like BDM

I tested for BDM and the steel feed lip X mags worked 100%
Some that came out did have out of spec feed towers but BDM has great CS and replaced them for customers quickly.

The BDM's will not operate the CMMG BHOA. The followers will hold the bolt back but the bolt slams shut when the mag is removed.

The Gen ll CMMG mags will lock the bolt back when used with the BHOA, just like a standard AR.

Thanks for the clarification on things! So that's a definite yes on a stainless bolt then. Yes on the stainless collar too? I'll get the BHOA as I like that feature. Can I block the Gen II 25 round mags (may as well get the Gen II since they cost the same) so I have a 10/25?

Looking like the M4 LEP is my choice thus far, unless someone can talk me into a different set-up?

It depends on if you want a dedicated 22 or a true AR platform to change out uppers at a later date.

A lot of people get the 15-22 for the cool factor or the close to the real thing ergonomics of the Big Brother for training purposes.

I was going to get a 15-22, but since I purchased several lowers, I'm just going to make a dedicated .22 AR but with "real deal" metal parts. I already have one 5.56 AR and will have a couple of more, plus a 7.62 AR down the road. Not too worried at this point about buying a whole 'nother rifle so as to not tie up a lower.

Any opinion on the Revolution handguard upgrade? Will it improve accuracy of 16" Light Weight .22 Upper? Thanks.

The Revolution, like any free float, can increase accuracy by not putting pressure on the barrel itself when using a torqued sling or resting on a bag.

It would be more noticable at longer distances.

The best feature of the Revolution hand guard is it's very lite weight and narrow. It also has the ability to add rail sections where you need them.
