    Ruger SR22

I don't know much about them.

I just drosed one today. I am in one of those buy whatever I can get my hands on moods.

Anyways, what is the general consensus for this gun?

First thing I noticed was the size. I have huge hands, so it is very small in my bear paws. Even though it is small, I instantly thought well my kids, wife and NEW shooters might enjoy it. So it is not something that I personally would shoot very often.

Obviously I am not looking to take the competitive shooting circuit on with this new addition. I am not looking the thread needles with it. But decent grouping would be nice. How well can you shoot with yours?

I read that the DA trigger is terrible and the SA is.... well could be better. Any thoughts on this? Did the reviewer maybe get a bad copy?

Finally, how is the reliability? Are they breaking or having issues?

I had a GSG 1911 (sold it) it had a few issues including the slide breaking.

Any issues like that with the Ruger SR22?

Mine has been reliable but I've only put about 2k rounds trough it. My GF shoots it way more since I prefer my 22/45. I stick to copper coated ammo because it fouled badly with cci blazer once.

Try putting the thicker grip that comes in the box.

I love the gun. Another +1 for the larger grip. I can barely fire the gun with the slim grip on it. It is super reliable and after hundreds of rounds only 1 failed to fire (ammo related). It has reliably fed every single type of ammo I've put through it.

      Best .22 out there.

        Ouch

Yeah that is an issue (GSG1911). I like the 1911 so much I really had high hopes for that but got a Kimber instead and love it - light though - very light.

I thought about an SR22 for my wife. She carries a ppk/s 22 but might like this one better. I'll look forward to more answers on your thread saying they are great and see if anyone has any problems - I heard there were some issues with some earlier - I know there are other threads on them here I just have to search them out.

The SR22 and S&W's M&P22 are probably the best semi auto slide .22's on the market right now. Can't go wrong with either one for reliability, fun, and accuracy, IMO..

I hated the gun with the small grip on it. After I put the larger grip and base plate extenders on, it felt less like a toy. It's a fun little shooter.

What about the Walther P22? Same gun or what? My Turners has both and I want one...just because.

No, that gun is plagued with failures and problems. The sr22 is flawless

I like mine..much better fit with the " fatter grip" on it. I also added the finger tab baseplates to my mags to give my paws some more grip surface. Mine has a few hundred rounds through it with only 1 ftf/fte but that was using some crappy ammo.

My SR is flawless. I have the first batch with the PISTOL on the slide.

Excellent DA trigger, excellent SA trigger, excellent reliability, excellent durability, excellent ergos... zero issues. Sometimes it'll fail to chamber to next round after a shot is fired ONLY WHEN using cheap bulk ammo. This is because some cheap rounds explode too weak to rack the slide ALL THE WAY back. Not an issue, just find the right ammo and avoid others. If grips are too small, put a mini hogue on it, great fit and feel. It's basically the nicest slide action sa/da .22lr pistol out there right now.

The SR22 must have gotten a bad reviewer.

Put around 3k through mine. Have not had the problems others have had with broken take down levers. Don't use hyper velocity ammo and I think you'll be fine. Will get the occasional failure to feed or failure to extract. Seems to be picky with Win superX. Cycles most any other cheap bulk ammo as long as you don't over oil it. Federal Champion Bulk works great.

Fun. I have long fingers and use the large grip and now have added some bike tire inner tubes too to fatten it up.

I have about 1k through mine with only 2 ftfire due to the ammo. I like this gun because its a fun little shooter. Its a great plinking gun and good for beginners to use. Accuracy is ok and better if you take your time and shoot for that but its no MKIII. I mostly use Federal through it and have had no problems. I do also have a GSG1911 and after a few mods it runs fairly well and I alternate between it and the SR on trips to the range.

Good review about it right here, also compares it to the Walther...
