A WHOLE thread on things you need for a 10/22, and no one has said that you need a new magazine release?

I picked up a plastic one off of ebay for my 10/22 when I was 18. It has worked flawlessly for more than 6 years now, and cost me all of $4 shipped.

Instead of fumbling with some stupid magazine release that you have to push really hard up into the gun, you just pull the release forward with your thumb.

It's like an MP5 mag release instead of some thing you have to flip the gun over and really try hard to push.

Holy crap! Palmer Boys, I just checked out rimfire central - you've just ruined my life. Now I have a whole new forum I have to check out, keep track of classifieds... sigh.

I put one you pull like a trigger for my girlfriend's 10/22 build. It is plastic and cost about 5 bucks shipped. Definitely super easy to use, much better than the stock one, and easy to install.

The standard mag release works perfect with stock 10rd mags.

I love my ruger. You can replace 100% of the parts with aftermarket parts its so popular.

I have the Trimag adapter. It's great. Also acts as a nice stable rest for your rifle.

This post is a reminder of upgrades to do. Just don't know what to do yet.

                ^ ^ ^ That one!!!

No need to gussy the thing up until you shoot it for a while and figure out what configuration suites you best. Half the fun of having a 10/22 is working on it (improving it) to your satisfaction...which can take several attempts.

I am getting a stainless one and I think the new mag release is better than the old one. Watch this video at 1:23 and he shows it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_W5v0EYK7U

Yeah... you can spend DAYS reading up rimfire central....

My vote, VQ hammer, and a bolt buffer.

Take the old buffer and drill a hole in the mag release, epoxy old bolt buffer into hole. Just drill the hole at an angle towards the trigger guard since the lever will tilt towards the mag when you release the mag.

Convert your existing bolt release to the autobolt release- instructions on RFC- all you need is a file or dremel.

Leave it stock, spend a grip of money and get a variety of ammo to see what works best. Mine is great with CCI blazer and minimags, does nicely with remington, and utterly hates federal blue box ammo. Next I'm trying wolf match to see how that works out.

After you've tried out a bunch of ammo, you'll have a better idea of what you'd like to change.

P.S. I love the trimags, and there are listing for them in the commercial marketplace forum.

Okay, I know this thread belongs to the 10/22 fans, and I am not saying there is anything wrong with the 10/22, but...
The first thing you should buy for your 10/22 is a Sig 522.
The 10/22 is a few hundred bucks cheaper than the Sig 522, but if you are going to upgrade the 10/22, you should have just spent the extra money on the front end and gotten a 522 instead. The mags for the 522 are the same cost as the 10/22. The 522 trigger is better (unless you pay and upgrade it), the 522 has a folding stock (unless you pay and upgrade it). The ergonomics are better (unless you pay and upgrade the stock).
I had a 10/22 until I shot a 522, then traded up. The 10/22 is not a bad rifle but the 522 is just a bit better.

But if you are going to stick with the 10/22, I would get the extended mag release, and get one of those speed loaders and about 10 more mags with steel feed lips. You can never have too many magazines. And like the wise gentleman said before me, Get enough bricks of ammo to build a wall.

1.) Your boresnake will work, so you're good
2.) I like Butler Creek mags
                              5a.) Bolt Buffer
5b.) More magazines, the more the merrier, You can't have too many.
5c.) Butler Creek mag loader, makes loading many mags much easier
5d.) Different types Bulk ammo at Walmart; Federal, Winchester, and CCI, forget Remington. See which one you gun likes best or the cheapest. The Fed is the cheapest from Walmart
                              5e.) Auto Bolt Release
5f.) Volquartsen Hammer, drops the trigger weight from 7+ to less than 4
                              5g.) Decent Scope and rings

Then you can choose things like replacement stock, barrel, trigger group, bipod, etc. depending on how much money you want to spend.
