    Marlin model 60 any good?

I've been thinking about buying a .22 semi auto for some cheap plinking and found this:

I shot a lot of tube magazine .22s as a kid, and I like the fact that it has a 14 round capacity versus a ten round box. The last-round-lockback also seems like a nice feature.

So I ask: Any Calgunners own one of these? Hows the quality of these rifles? Dependability? Low/high maintenance? I'd appreciate any advice you could offer.

    It's a great .22LR rifle.
It's as accurate and reliable as a Ruger 10/22.
If you don't want to spend extra money customizing or on magazines, get a Marlin Model 60.

Perfectly said - lasts a lifetime. If you find an older one, can hold 17-18 rounds. And may have a little squirrel on the stock...

Yes, not many mods for it, but doesn't need any. Just get a lot of ammo. Maybe a 3/8" grip scope.

One thing I like it vs. the iconic 10/22 is that the 60 is lighter and a longer gun. Get a strong sling and use that to help support and you'll be shooting bullseyes.

      It really is accurate...

Rimfirecentral has forums on 10/22 and Marlin 60 and both get rave reviews.

I would avoid the 795 - short gun with magazines and no wood stock. That's just me, some guys like them. (I paid almost double what a 795 sells for to get the older Glenfield 18 rounder with squirrel). It'll outlast me.

EDIT: I see there is a humongous pro-795 thread.. haha
EDIT: Wood is where it's at...

I'm kind of an evil-black-rifle guy, so I'm on the fence about whether to get the wood or synthetic stock. I also didn't know the older models hold even more rounds I may have to look into one of those.

Its just like the Marlin 795, but tube fed, so it should be pretty decent.

I've got a Ruger 10/22 and like it quite a bit. Also got a buddy with a Marlin Model 60 that shoots cloverleafs at 100 yards with certain ammo that this particular gun likes. He loves that gun, and you can't argue with 100-yd cloverleafs.

Mine's a good gun, reliable (for a .22lr), and is accurate enough for me. I too, like that it holds 14 rounds, and the BHO is a nice feature.

The only gripe I have about mine is the scope won't stay in place no matter how much I tighten the mounts or how much loctite I use. I'm going to drill and tap it eventually though so that won't be an issue after that.

Just scoped out a little bit of the 795 thread. Does any of the aftermarket stuff (stock, trigger, bolt handle, etc.) for the 795 fit the 60?

I had to get one of those airsoft mounts that have a solid 2"-3" grip on both sides of the vmount. I got the link for the source from RimFirecentral... I think the scopemount was off of ebay. (Boy are those guys hardcore about scopes...) (It's not in the picture above)

I have a 70's Glenfield model 60. It still out shoots my 10-22's out of the box. I love 10-22's, but the model 60 is just WoW !
