    CMMG Sierra .22lr Upper BHO

Well, I dry fitted my lower with this upper last night and after a few google searches and CG research, I need to return my BD Mags and buy the CMMG mags with the green BHO follower AND the BHO Adapter. I plan on calling them today to be sure. I hope the latest gen actually functions.

Meanwhile, I also contacted Nordic Components to see if they offer an upper with BHO functionality.

    What say yous?

    1) You will actually need:
BlueOnyx: Open Source Web Hosting Solution - Powerful and Easy to Use

    OR
BlueOnyx: Open Source Web Hosting Solution - Powerful and Easy to Use

    to use the BHOA properly...

    2) I have a feeling that the CMMG BHOA probably wont be compatible with the Nordic Uppers and I dont think they have anything for that themselves. That said, I've never heard of anyone trying so you might get lucky there.

Right on Dustin. Looks like I need the mags and a BHO Adaptor. If I can get this to work, I won't even touch the Nordic, since I already have the CMMG

Dustin is right. Those GEN II mags are the ones you want. They are on backorder with no real release date in sight. Keep the black dogs and use them until the cmmg mags are in stock (that's what I'm doing). The follower on the black dog will hold the bolt back on the last shot, however when you take the mag out the bolt will close. So it's not terrible. You just have to use the charging handle to chamber each mag instead of the bolt release.

The Nordic upper uses a proprietary bolt design so it won't work with the BHO as far as anyone as said. Their bolt stays open how I described above with the BDM mags.

edit: This is true for the BDM mags that have the tall follower on them. Most of the new ones do I believe.

Yea, true, it's not terrible. I think I've come to grips with the fact that it doesn't BHO like my regular AR. Big deal right? It's just a fun plinker. I have 2 BDs right now, and I'll wait for the GenIIs

The new Generation Evolution release has been a nightmare from the start. Many delays and now CMMG claims to be shipping backorders for the new mags but there was also a problem with the springs too. It may be a very long time before you can get any of the new Gen ones. I would like to have a couple but maybe by the end of 2013 I might be able to order one We just use blackdog drums and although they will not operate the CMMG BHO we still keep it in there to manually lock the bolt back. Goodluck and let us know if you ever get the new skeletal mags and Goodluck with that.. Thanks

I wasn't aware of the issues with the Evolution mag release. I was able to get 4 Evolution mags (3 short & 1 long) along with a GenII BHOA in late September of last year.
Finally tested the upper since receiving it back from CMMG for failure to fire/light stirke issues on Friday. Shot 200 rounds with no malfunctions and the BHOA works like a charm. I wanted to order a few more mags now that my Evolution upper is working properly. I guess i'm going to have to wait for now.

There were some issues early on with some very early mags that were practically prototypes. As far as I know... All of those issues were addressed a long time ago.

One has a low profile railed "gas block" (which is NOT actually NEEDED and is really only to hold the cap which helps hold the hand guard on) where as the other has a front sight "gas block" (which once again is NOT NEEDED except to hold the hand guard in place).

Also, I would recommend getting the stainless steel upgrade... It's much easier to clean and does not have a breakin period.

oh ok, excuse my nooby ness, but this is my first AR , i got a completed lower build i am picking up which has a magpul UBR stock

if i use this upper the m4LEP i have a couple questions, can i switch out the hand gaurd for some rails? like full floats? what size would i need to install these rails? im a complete AR noob, also since this LEP has what looks like a front Picatinny rail if i dont get the rails i can always just put a magpul site in the front? and a flip up in the rear?

                            1) Yes you can swap the hand guard for some Rails even a free floating rail. I've actually done it to 3 of my .22LR uppers.

                            2) You could use any size of rail, though i would recommend AT LONGEST a 13" rail. You have to remember that its a 16" barrel, but 1-1.5" or so is sunk into the upper receiver meaning it APPEARS to be a 14.5-15".

You will probably need a standard barrel wrench, a good upper receiver vice block, and a vice. ---If you get a rail like the Troy Alpha rail's you could probably cut the delta ring off the barrel nut and avoid the need for a upper receiver vice block, vice, and barrel wrench (because the Alpha rails use the standard barrel nut).

                            3) Yes, that will work fine with the Magpul sights...

Any AR accessories will fit the CMMG rimfire uppers. It is a standard AR upper reciever..It just has a differant bolt and barrel. You could throw a .223 barrel on it and a .223 bolt in it and have a AR15. Thats the great thing about the CMMG dedicated uppers. They are real ARs in all aspects except caliber.. Thanks

Sorry the answer to the magpul sights is yes you can use them and they will work great, You can still use the magpul sights wether you choose to keep that original handguard or not. The block will move anywhere you want it to and you can use any length handguard you wish to. On my Sons we are using a midlength Magpul handguard as it came with Carbine ones originally. Anything is possible with these. My Sons started out just a basic upper and lower and has kinda gotten out of control so be careful or they can cost alot of money if you decide to ad alot of features. They are well worth the financial extras however in my opinion..Heres a pic of my Sons if you care to see it....Thanks
