    got my first .22lr.... a 10/22!!!

got my first 22 and went to the range and upon inspection i found that it had probably never been cleaned so after a quick dust off i went ahead and shot an entire 555 round remington golden bullet .22lr brick without a single ftf or jam of any kind. the bolt cycled better than any other semi auto .22 i have ever fired.

    heres a pic:
    (nikon 3-9x40mm scope)

I purchased it at the gun vault in mtn view on consignment and got a great deal. I also got extremely lucky in the sense that its an older model with a steel barrel band and buttplate and trigger guard. It is also fairly accurrate or a non free floated barrel. I was able to pluck off small shoot n c stickers at 50 and 100 yards in one or two shots using bulk ammo. very fun little plinker/gunsmithing school project gun. I may use this for my automatic weapons course this summer.

Its going to be getting an ATI folding stock and a new trigger along with a new mag release and a couple other little goodies along the way that i havnt made up my mind on.

Looks good! I love my 10/22. I also really like the guys at bay area gun vault. They have a really nice shop, and always take the time to let me fondle all their "stuff".

Is the scope the BDC model? If so go to nikonhunting.com and launch the "Spot On" program for range data for the reticle. Easy to use and very accurate drop points.

the one thing that suprized me is that the front blade sight does not show up in the scope reticle... amazing... that was one thing i was worried about but it seems my fears have been put to rest. i love the look of a low mounted scope on the 10/22

The 10/22 is the best .22 rifle ever made. Accept no substitutes!

I plan on it. I have a .17hmr mossberg 817 bolt action that I equally love and after really pushing the lead out I found that a bolt .22lr would be fun and great for saving money with the longer time between shots.

im kind of new ,why the love for 10-22s. they seem like all the other brands. they all cost about the same. i keep hearing about all the goodies you can get for this rifle. i do not dislike Ruger. but marlin, mossberg, rimington and savage make very good 22s also. i bought a savage mark 2 FV and feel it shoots out of the box better than the others. even the cheepo simi auto savage 64 is very well made. at the gun store i see nothing special about 10 22s.

SAVAGE MARK 2, our barrel is so good we do not need to replace it to be a good shooter.

Its an american all time favorite been around for a long time and very reliable i own a 10/22 my bro has the savage 64 when both gets dirty from ammo his has problem feeding ammo. Also even when its clean his savage is ammo picky mainly hp type, remington gold etc, the 10/22 on the other hand has no issue like that. Dont get me wrong i also own a savage in a .270win nothing wrong with them they are well built with nice good quailty compare to the ruger and etc....

No question that the Ruger 10/22 is one of the best semi-auto .22 rifles made but the Marlin 60 has sold over 11 million since 1960 while the Ruger 10/22 has sold 5 million since 1964. Just a matter of choice for the shooter. Out of the box accuracy-Marlin 60, want to spend lots of $$$ on mods-Ruger 10/22. I happen to own a 26 year old Marlin 60 and still going strong and eats any ammo. Neither is a bad choice.

I am in the market for another semi and it will be either the Ruger 10/22 or the Remington 597 (seems to have some issues but I like working on the bugs).
