New 22/45... any advice?

It's not on the list but I saw one at San Jose Gun Exchange a couple weeks ago.
This! Your thumbs and ammo manufacturers will love you!
That's a great price. Midway sells em for that price and they sell out within days of getting them in stock.
And definitely do the mag disco mod. I had my Sam's bushing before the gun got out of jail and installed it before I even shot it. IMO that should be the first mod/accessory besides the UCLComment

All the advice I would give already given.
The ultimate clip loader is the first thing you should get. Only down side is you go through a brick of ammo twice as fast. If you get the clip loader you won't need as many mags. I have six mags and I feel it's overkill considering how fast I can load them with the UCL.
Shoot the gun stock first for a couple bricks, then decide what you would like to improve.Comment

I have a MK III Hunter, the only thing I hate is the magazine does not drop free after the last shot fired when the slide is open, can that be improved?Comment

Nope ...... replaceable grips are "evil" and not on the DOJ list
I guess Ruger doesn't want to pay to qualify one with the replaceable grips.
Also anyone that owns a 22/45 MarkIII should also own a rubber mallet to get the darn thing back together.
Limit politicians to two terms. One in office and one in jail.
Beware of people who are certain they are right. That certainty allows them to justify almost any act in pursuit of their goals. ( Jack campbell , Guardian)Comment

^ Yup - have now taken apart my 22/45 at least four times and used the rubber mallet each time. I suppose over time it will loosen up, but for now it's on there tight."Two dead?!? HOW?!?"

I would recommend that you first and foremost master disassembly/reassembly. It is going to be very very difficult the remove the bolt stop pin for the first time on your new 2245. Try wearing a glove for that part. You're also going to have to whack the upper off of the frame pretty darn hard to get it to come off. Don't be afraid, but use plastic or wooden hammer so you don't ruin the blue.
As far as upgrades, here are the essentials in my opinion:
1. Magazine disconnect removal by replacing disconnect & disconnect spring with a MKII hammer bushing
2. VQ Target Sear
3. VQ Target Trigger
This will turn your 2245 into a gun that is fun as heck to shoot. ~2lb trigger. It's a plinker anyways. The VQ Target hammer is unnecessary. Put a red dot on it and you'll be having a lot of fun. Oh and get magazines for days.
Oh and BTW, if you decide the replace the trigger w/ the VQ Target Trigger, the VQ trigger will come with its own trigger plunger and plunger spring. Use the VQ plunger, but use the OEM plunger spring that's already in the gun. The VQ plunger plunger spring is too weak and often times fails to reset the trigger, and even when it does, the spring pressure is so weak that it feels very NOT-positive.Last edited by tal3nt; 05-21-2012, 6:16 PM.Comment

I disabled the loaded chamber indicator and the magazine safety. You can search for instructional videos on youtube, once you figure out how to actually break down your 22/45 everything else is pretty simple. By disabling those to features I have noticed my gun has less malfunctions and that I can go longer between cleanings.Comment

Listen to the crowd; get rid of the mag disconnect safety.A good rifle build isn't cheap, but a bad one can be expensive!
My house; like the White House, is NOT a gun free zone!Comment
