    Good .22 Revolver

I'm drafting one of my friends into the glorious group known as shooters. He's completely new to guns so I've been teaching him shooting technique on my 22/45. He's really enjoying it and now wants to get a gun of his own. He wants to stick with .22 for now to keep getting better at shooting and he would prefer a revolver (I think just because he has a mental archetype of a revolver as "gun").

Anyway, what is a good .22 revolver to recommend to him that is reliable, accurate, and not too expensive. He would prefer to not spend more than $400. Any suggestions?

Unless you're looking at used firearms, $400 isn't much to deal with. I'd recommend spending the extra money to pick up a nice Ruger or Smith & Wesson. They'll last many lifetimes, so the extra cost is insignificant considering how long the gun will last.

If I bought a .22 revolver, I'd probably go with the Ruger SP101. It holds 8 rounds, is small enough to carry while backpacking, and it'll last for generations.

Also take a look at the Smith & Wesson 617 if he wants something bigger (though it's a bit more expensive). S&W revolvers are known for their VERY smooth triggers and excellent quality.

I will also throw this on the table.....due to their limited budget, the Taurus Model 94 (black, 5 inch barrel, .22lr, 9 shot) is now on the California list. Turner's recently had it on sale for $319. Bought mine for $339 at Bass Pro a couple months ago. Other than very stiff DA pull, it has been perfect for me so far.

I vote for Taurus...Lifetime Warranty and good price point plus they shoot accurate. Only negative is resale value. Harder to move along than Smith & Wesson.

The Taurus 941 is a 22 mag with a 2 inch barrel [on the roster].The mag is a little bit better for HD.It should be within the budget.

You said good, right? $400. would get you to a Ruger
Nothing better than S&W Model 17 or 18 unless maybe a Colt Diamondback

Smith and Wesson Model 17 K22 Masterpiece...may be hard to find used for $400, but worth the look.

For new, the Ruger SP101 in 22 (4" barrel) is a nice bu, but still a bit over the budget.

Ruger SP 101, but $400 won't get him into one.

$400 is a tall order for good and accurate.

I bought a used S&W K22 Masterpiece from the 50's and it was close to $700.
Great quality and extremely accurate (with adjustable rear sights).

.22LR revolvers have been a hot item for the last couple of years. Demand is high.

If your friend is ok with a single action, the Ruger single-six may be closer in price.

Thanks guys! I think he might end up with the Taurus, but if anyone else has any advice, bring it on.

                          Ruger SP101 .22 LR with 4.2 barrel

                          +1

Invest the difference over the Taurus... you will get your money's worth.

Heritage Rough Rider! around $200 and u can get the combo version so u can use .22lr and .22wmr

single action might be a good thing if he is new to guns

As everyone else said. It's worth the extra money to go for the Ruger or s&w. If he ever sells it he'll get much more for it than the Taurus. Start saving those pennies!
