So "looks" is your answer?

Yes. Why else would people be buying the various other .22lr guns that look more like service pistols(walther p22, sig mosquito, etc.)? It's not like the 22/45 and MK series have a reputation of being unreliable pieces of crap or something.

edit: And of course some people consider looks when buying guns. Why else do you think the Tactical Solutions barrels come in 6 or 7 colors with decorative fluting, laminate 10/22 stocks available in 20 color combinations, gloss/satin finish, different bolt handle shapes, 1911 grip panels in hundreds of varieties(wood, plastic, metal, laminate wood, g10/micarta, checkered, smooth, tons of colors, bone/ivory, and so on).

But as for me no need for another Ruger. I have the older 22-45 version that I just stippled the other night. Got tired of using grip tape. It grips much better now.






And it works great for competition shoots!

Because some people prefer different brands, they get a better deal on something else, they don't care for Bill Ruger's legacy or they cannot deal with the MK-22/45 field stripping process.

If it were just a matter of a different brand, there's the walther sp22, beretta neos(before it was off the roster. But that only applies to CA sales anyway), browning buckmark, smith & wesson 41, smith & wesson 22a, beretta bobcat, bersa thunder, taurus pt22, etc.

Well, the 'buckmark' & Ruger's mauser looking pistols won't mimic the way a modern service handgun would. Namely, there's no slide so they can practice with a M&P22, SR22, Sig Mosquito they way they do their others.

I got the email about the 'lite' and it looks bad ***. I too hope they make a CA version.
