Scope over kill for a .22lr!

I like starting at 1.5 or 2 after that I like keeping the scope under 32mm

Totally agreed 100% - anything over 32mm is a overpowering a 22LR rifle in usage, look and weight.

Best is the Weaver rimfire scope 2.5-7x28 at less than 9oz.

I didn't want to spring on the $50 rebate deal on the current Nikon rimfire scopes 3-9x40mm - just think the 40mm is waaay too big for a small rimfire rifle. The 4x32mm Nikon would be a better choice but I prefer lower power starting also.

I use an old Comp M personally. That FIRST one they made, that has about 12 hours of battery life.

I didnt start this thread for 10/22s. I did it for ALL .22lr rifles. If you read the first post its about the question of scope overkill. Ive seen a good spread of scope powers and usages.

More folks in here use their lr for long range target than i would have thought. Good for them if thay can do it.

All magnifications in the poll have place on .22 LR, just depends on what weapon is being used for.

I own a number of .22s so I have a variety of scopes for different purposes.

Three 6.5-20X
Two 3-9X
One 8-32X
One 7-21X
One 6-24X

Two factors determine my scope choices: My aging eyesight and use. For target work I prefer higher magnification. For plinking and 25 yd target work the 3-9X is perfect. I currently have more scopes than rifles so I'm in the process of thining the herd.

I like to stretch things out a bit in terms of distance so an important factor for me is how much elevation adjustment a given scope has. I currently shoot two .22 rifles (Sako Quad and CZ 453 Varmint) and both of them wear a Leupold Mark-4 16x, which when coupled with a 20MOA base will get me out to 427 yards with subsonic ammo before hold-over becomes necessary.

Weaver T-36 kidd said I agree with above you can never have too much scope only too little skill, some 22's can punch out a 1/2" group or less at 100 yards I'm lucky enough to have one, but ill admit most of the time my bad wind call push me to around a 3/4 group get me in prone and its still a good looking group

I don't have one on my M&P 15-22 yet but my gun shop is trying to find me a 3X9X33 Rimfire EFR to mount on it for varmints.

Supposedly Leupold is not making them and they are kind of tough to find (don't believe it).

The 22 lr is accurate i shoot it past 100 yards touching in a 2 inch group

I admit i hadn't thought of a .22lr doing much beyond 100 yards. I guess it just goes to you its the person pulling the trigger that does the hard stuff.

Now that ive seen some input here im planning on adding a scope well a better scope to my new Savage 64fxp. Ive never had a semi-auto with a scope befor but this is going to be my new squirrel gun so I'm probably going to stay in the medium power for this. Maybe 4-12x. Anyone know a good MD scope in that class?

my favorite hunting scope is a weaver 6x fixed, but for ground squirrels its 6x24!
