how long should a .22lr last?

I have a ruger sr22 pistol and was wondering how long this pistol might last? since .22lr ammo is exponentially cheaper than other calibers I can shoot a lot more. My ? is like my 92fs, beretta states the frame is durable up to a certain number of rounds etc. so how long should my .22 last?

How long will the barrel last? 30,000? You do need to clean the lead out sometimes.

I have over 20K through my CMMG M4 LE and it's still very accurate. I'm not sure you can shoot a .22 barrel out. Now if you shoot bare lead, it will lead up.

My son now has a 22 rifle that was handed down all the way from his Great Grandfather. My Grandfather purchased it in 63, and gave it to my father, who then gave it to me in 1980. I myself have shot 10's of thousands of rounds thru it one at a time and to this day my son has also shot thousands of rounds thru it. It is still very accurate and runs like a watch for reliability. It all comes down to maintenance, and luck.

Thanks a lot. I guess my concern was the integrity of the frame as well as the slide. Only time will tell I guess, since there is no real data on the sr22( being a new pistol and all)

Metal will outlast plastic always in my opinion.

Any quality 22 LR will last longer than you want them to. Keep them lubed. You will wear the barrel out more by cleaning it than shooting it.

My 63 year old dad has had a winchester super-x .22lr for the last 50 years. I think its been cleaned about 4 times and it still shoots better than we're capable of.

^This. You're unlikely to wear out a decent quality 22 in your lifetime as long as you take care of it. It's theoretically possible but not very likely. No need to over clean the barrel (every 500-2000rds is plenty) but clean the moving parts regularly and keep it lightly lubed.

Just to add to the lifetime plus stories.

I biught a Ranger 101.11 which is a Savage that was made probably in the 40's or 50's. I bought this when I was 19; which was 25 years ago. I have have put 6 to 10 thousand rounds a year through her. So that's somewhere between 150,000 and 250,000 rounds in the time I've had her. Who knows how many were put through her in the 40 or so years that I didn't own her.
