I have googled around but can't find any... to me it seems like it would make sense in increasing reliability. At the least it would be easier to clean, and make me feel like it'd last for two lifetimes.

With people claiming to have put 50,000 or more rounds down the barrel on guns they've had in the family since the 60's or earlier, why chrome line the barrel? Any reliability issues I've ever seen or heard of with a .22lr have been ammo or something else in the action/frame/slide/etc., so chrome lining the barrel wouldn't help that either. It would increase the cost for no gain.Comment

I have a made in 1981 10/22 with a standered steel barrel..
Since then I stopped counting rounds and went to bricks fired...
Now I lost count...But barrel still looks new on the inside...
No pits...All shinny...rifling looks new..
The inside of the reciver is where the wear is showing.
Besides....improper cleaning is the biggest threat to a .22 barrle.Last edited by uxo2; 03-08-2012, 9:00 AM.Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you,

It's a 22. It doesn't have enough pressure to deteriorate the barrel, even after thousands upon thousands of rounds... maybe if it were full auto and heat played a factor.Hartzler v. City of San Jose.
