    Marlin Firearms 22LR not ejecting

I have a small Marlin Firearms 22LR that I can't get to eject out any cartidges, spent or not. It's a bolt action that will pull the cartridge back, but it won't spit out the cartridge. I have to stick something in there and pull it out. I've searched all over for a break down of this thing so I can pull it apart and fix it. But I can't find it. Any help would be appreciated. I've had this thing for over 20 years since I was a kid. Thanks in advance!!

Solvent, brush and swab. A thorough cleaning is in order. Then move on to the extractor and bolt assembly. First off, the model number would help. Be careful digging out rimfire cartridges with tools, you may strike the rim with enough force ignite primer.

If it's extracting, but not ejecting, it's probably the ejector/lifter spring. It needs to be bent at a particular angle to work correctly. All it takes is a nickle. =)

I've used the same process on my own Model 60, after I "adjusted" the spring all out of whack and couldn't figure out why it was stovepiping every time.

This thread at Rimfire Central describes the process.

I think this post in the same forum should have detailed disassembly instructions, though they're not necessary to adjust the spring (but come in handy if you need to replace it).

If you're also having extraction problems, you should check the extractor to make sure it's clean (and can move) and not excessively worn. Also check the barrel breech for peening of the barrel end caused by dry-firing, it's possible that could cause the case to stick.

Chances are, it's just the spring geometry that needs a tweak.

I'll do that. It's been sitting for years until I took it out recently. Last I remember it worked fine, but it's been a long time since I've taken it out. The model number is 15YN. Sorry, I didn't even think about the model number.

Thank you very much!! Yes, it's extracting, but not ejecting. I just need to see how to pull it apart so I can fix it. I couldn't find anything on youtube or with google. I'll check out those links you provided

A marlin .22 lever action. That's great. What model? Is it an old 39A? Being more specific of the issue may help the doctor to be more able to help you out.

"YES ON THIS!" This subject, I would think, should be moved to 'Gunsmithing'?"

He posted it was a 15YN, that's a youth bolt action rifle.

I have a marlin 81 that there were some issues with the reciever. Long story short check the parts if they cross let me know what you need it is yours. Aside from barrel/receiver.

The 15y had a wire ejector that may be either broken or just loose. seperate the action from the stock and first see if its just loose. its held on by the same post that the stock bolt secures to. DR

Thank you everyone for the input. I should be able to pull it apart this weekend. Going to see if I can get this thing fixed. I always enjoyed it as a plinker. Like I've said, I've had it since I was a little kid.

Ok, so I figured out that the ejector is just sliding back and forth freely. It's not sticking out so the cartridge hits it to fling it out. I'm still trying to figure out how to get this thing apart. Any cal gunners local to San Ramon that are willing to take a look for me?

I found a diagram. But unfortunately, I don't have instructions to figure out where the ejector spring goes. I think it's missing from the gun.
