    Henry AR-7- Anyone have one?

    Any thoughts on this rifle?

My uncle has one and I got the opportunity to shoot it a few months ago. It was a cool little rifle and did exactly what I expected it to. I don't remember the specifics but I know that I was satisfied with the accuracy at 25 yards (sorry I can't provide more specific details, it was a while ago). It's definitely on my list of guns to buy.

I would take it hiking, boating, rafting, etc becasue it packs up into a small space and it even floats!

It retails $229, so definitely affordable. Just want to gather as much info as I can from people who have handled/shot it. I'm not too familiar with them. Thanks for your input.

I have a Henry's version. Took it out once and it didn't work very well. I'll try some other ammo next time and see what happens.
          Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Mine shoots both the Wally World Federals and Centurian. No problems yet. Still relatively new though, only about 200 rounds through it. Came with 2 mags but will store a 3rd inside of it. I'll get one during my next Midway purchase.

Mine works okay, but the nut that holds the barrel on can back off and cause miss feeds.

I have the AR7 Industries version, I picked up from Big 5 for $149 on sale back in 2002. I actually shot it for the first time last Friday at the monthly OC Calguns shoot at On Target Range. Yeah, yeah, I know, 10 years and not shooting the new gun, in that time I've been raising my two boys and the older one is nine now and just about ready so start shooting the 22, so hopefully it will be seeing a lot more use.

Put 100 rounds through it without a glitch, I forgot the brand of ammo, what ever they sell at On Target. The only thing I don't like about mine is you can only store 1 clip in the stock, it looks like the new versions you can store 2.

Very cool as a survival rifle as it's the ultimate in portability, I'd recommend it for the portability and cool factor alone.

Had one. Shot a few. Don't have any use for one.

That's what caught my attention. I know it's a .22, and maybe the Ruger is enough to cover that dept in all reality. But never the less, still a cool concept gun.

I like my AR-7, with that said you need to understand it's a purpose built rifle. Most people who find themselves unhappy with it bought it expecting a target rifle. It has some differences such as the receiver being off center to the right when screwed to stock, which can be difficult for some people to shoot with. It functions best with round nose high velocity do to the way it feeds and bolt design. That's not to say Henry hasn't imporved it greatly in recent years since aquiring the design. I generally run mini-mags or blazer out of it and have never had a malfunction while using that ammo.

Overall I like my little AR-7 and it's a nice rifle to throw under the seat of the car, take out on the boat, or hit the bush with. Can a 22/45 or buckmark be substituted? yes. But if you're already carrying a centerfire pistol then it's nice to have the AR-7 to grab some dinner with if needed, have you seen what a Glock 20 does to a rabbit, squirrel, or bird? It's not very pretty. I also don't think I would call it a concept gun considering it's been in production longer than the 10/22. As stated, as long as you realize what the AR-7 is not then you should have fun with it.

I love mine, but it doesn't seem to like the cheap/bulk ammo, so I stick with CCI.....but again, I love it!

I had a Charter Arms version about 30 years ago. I did not care for the quality (or lack of it) and gave it away.

I understand the current version is much improved, but that hasn't convinced me to buy one.

Have one and love it for what it is. Like REPR said, its no traget rifle, but at 25yrds I can group 8rds the size of a quarter or smaller. Feed it HV ammo like Mini-Mags or Blazer and you should have no issues with it. I've heard you can use the sub-sonic rounds, but then you have to manually cycle the action.
An err on the side of caution, is still an err. - me

I have an Charter Arms version that works pretty good for a survival rifle. If I ever see the Henry version I wouldn't mind getting another one just in case!
