I am new to bipods as well, and as many things in the gun world, the high end ones seem to be way overpriced to me. I don't get why they cost so much. I was going to go with a cheaper one, but then I decided that Harris sounded like the best bang for my buck, so I purchased one yesterday.

Here is a link to the site I bought mine. I bout the HBRM 6"-9" with notches. I figured for bench shooting that was the best bet for me. For the bipod, adapter, and shipping it cost me $112.25, and that was with 3 day shipping. http://www.harrisbipods.com/

I guess the big thing with cheaper bipods is that they aren't as tight fitting to the adapter, at least that is what I was told.

For a .22 a cheaper one might work fine, but I am shooting .223/5.56 out of my AR, so I decided to buy once, cry once. I did decide against the swivel because I don't mind moving the gun around myself when need be, as it isn't combat.

Yeah, unless you're doing some sort of precision work on your 22, go with a cheap pair of sticks duct taped to the handguard.

Well it is pretty tight to the sling stud however I would totally agree, on a larger caliber, or a more precision type rimfire I would also spend the money on a harris. For this rifle it fits and worked great.

The expectations for this rifle are Minute of pie plate at 100 yards. get drug through the dezert by the kids, and fire everytime it is loaded. going to get another swivel type and mount it on a similiar gun and do a side by side review. Probaly take a few weeks to get done though.

As for the swivel if it works as I imagine it would I can definately see the advantage. I was at bench and I just tossed some cardboard under one side to level it out. Also if your in the dirt it will be unlevel but rather simple to remedy that.

i have harris and versa-pods...both work fine.

i, personally, don't like a bi-pod that is 'rigid'. i like "some" movement, once extended, to allow for adjustment without having to adjust the position of the bi-pod.

I have a couple of different Harris units and a knock-off. Harris has gotten really expensive in just a short while. A cheaper unit might be had at the gunshows and you'll probably have the opportunity to check out the cheaper and more costly models.

Well i put a utg 9-13 on mine and got it off amazon for like 20 bucks shipped and have close to 2k rounds on my 10/22. I mainly shoot off a bench from 50-400 yards and i love it.

ps: im cheap but it works for me.

I have an AR with a .22 upper with no rails and no swivel stud.
The harris page http://www.harrisbipods.com/ shows a couple of adapters which might
address this, HB2 looks like it might work, HB5 claims to be for AR, but none of their more info pages provide much info ;-)
                Anyone used either of these?
