    Bipods

Ok school me on bipods. I am thinking about getting one but the options seem limitless. 6-9" 9-13" etc swivel and so on.

Then is Harris quality worth the cost?

Main shooting I do currently is off hand. My boys like shooting prone in the desert. This will go on a .22.

Harris is probably the best for the money! Your preference on the length. Why not buy both(?) They are not "that" expensive. That way you have the versatility. Now, having said that, I have a Remington 700 PSS with the 6-9" and it is perfect for lays. If you are going to a range, the 9-13" will be too much for the bench (pending on the configuration, height of bench at range. I would buy both. I have both and they are easily removed and fixed. Hope that helps!

For me the 6-9" is perfect prone or from any "normal" height range bench. It is a nice tool to have, and definitely more stable than shooting without a rest. Not as good as a tripod or a more stable rest, but easier to carry around.

I agree with Groovidad that Harris is the best for the money. The Harris knockoffs on the market (Shooter's Ridge/Caldwell) are not quite as good and/or not much less expensive. There are some very nice heavy duty bipods out there, but they're expensive and not necessary for a .22.

I disagree on them not being expensive though lol... I think my Harris BRM-S 6-9" was like $95. I didn't care to mount/dismount it from rifle to rifle, and wasn't going to buy 5 of them; so I bought a LaRue QD bipod mount. My AR15 & AR10 have rails, and I bolted a 2" segment of rail on each of my bolt guns, so the (1) bipod gets moved from gun to gun quickly and easily. Also nice for when you don't want to use it, you just pop it off and lighten the rifle.

Sling too, via flush QD sockets... I wasn't going to buy 5x $50 slings any more willingly than bipods. I'm on more of a budget than some guys I guess, but refuse to buy low quality gear. I don't mind sharing one piece of good gear between rifles.

Cheap, light, sturdy comes with mounting options.
I run the rubber foot version on my 795 and it is solid.

I have a UTG on my 10/22 that I mounted on a Uncle Mike's swivel stud.. Anyway, I paid $25 for the UTG and it has all the same features the Harris does. Not as nice of course, but I have not had a single issue with it in over 4 months of usage. Good luck...Oh, by the way, the UTG also rotates just like a Harris does.

I put a UTG Tactical low profile (6.2" to 6.7") on my .22 bolt action. perfect height (for me..) on most benches, or prone. I paid $30 for it. came with everything needed to mount to the sling swivel or picatinny rail....

For a first bi-pod get the Harris 6-9" Swivel. Then go online and get a "Pod-lock" device so you can keep it from swiveling when necessary.
Oh I see this for for kids shooting a .22, maybe just a 45 dollar bi-pod is fine.

                Hey all,
I too have been thinking of one. I do a good amount of field and bench shooting so I think I'llbuy both the short and long setups. I've always heard great things about the harris. Thanks all. Even though this isn't my thread...lol

Yeah this is going on a .22 for sure. It may end up on mine or the kids though.

I picked up a knock-off for a good deal from a calgunner yesterday. I will have it mounted up and shoot it this weekend. Worst case if it isn't liked by anyone it won't be a big loss.

Anyone use the super tall ones? Some I have seen are up to 27". Looks like it would be great for a quick rest at kneeling, but it has got to be cumbersome to fold and unfold in a hurry.

Keep an eye on the Bargain Cave at Cabela's. I got the Caldwell XLA 6-9" bipod and put some sling swivel studs on my 10/22 and it works very well. This bipod probably wouldn't stand up to my Remington 700XCR 7Mag but for the .22 it works perfectly. I would call it a must have item.

Sorry. Paid 25 bucks in the Bargain Cave. I would go Harris for my 7mm Mag like my brother in law did.

6-9 fixed will be fine for your kids. sand bag or other type bag shooting rest works just as well too.

swivel is for being more accurate and using a scope level. with 22lr, you're not shooting that far for it to matter much unless you are shooting competition. out at the range/blm and shooting paper/cans/etc you won't get much benefit from the swivel to level the scope correctly.

if they are going to sit and shoot, then the 9-13 may fit the kids. otherwise, just get stoney point shooting sticks for taller shooting heights.

Like everyone said 6-9 should suit your needs. For a 22 rifle, IMO no need to spend the money on Harris. The UTG bipod sells for around $20 works great I have that on my 10/22. I also have a bipod marketed by Winchester that I got at Walmart for $25 and that went onto my Marlin 795 with ease and is pretty stable.

Well Mounted up a used off brand 6"-9" on a stock 10/22.

Worked like a champ. I can see where a tilting one will have its benefits though. That will be next. As for quality or it holds up only time will tell.
