    I own a Sig 522 and a TacSol dedicated .22lr upper. I've also shot a Spike's dedicated .22lr upper, a S&W M&P 15-22, and GSG-5.

Without a doubt, the Sig 522 is the clear winner in the bunch. Best trigger, great accuracy, great value, perfect function, nicely made with good materials, uses BD mags, the list goes on. It's a three-way tie for second with the M&P and dedicated .22lr uppers (all good, but beaten out by the Sig for one reason or another).

      I'm biased...Sig 522.

Regular AR15 lower and Tactical Solutions upper. Excellent gun. Accurate and runs like a sewing machine.

Kelster- I don't agree with your statement that 15-22's need to be "really, really clean" I've literally dragged that thing through the dirt and shoot 2 boxes of whatever bulk ammo I have on hand and it runs perfect, when firing the gun I could feel the dirt grind on the bolt and reciver and have never had it fail. It seems like you got unlucky and got a finnicky gun

            15-22

Thousands of rounds later it is still a great gun!

You're right - you shouldn't ever bash the Colt rimfire AR. The receiver will snap if you do.

Can't comment on others but never having shot an ar style .22 I decided on my mp15.22 I'm a believer its as darn near close to as accurate as my savage and marlin and I first needed to burn off a 4yr old box of crappy remington golds which my savage absolutely hates but I rattled off I'd say around 300 that were left in my new mp and it never failed after that I opened my bulk federal champion and continued for a hundred or so more... Then last weekend I took it out to the levy road for fun and to sight in my new red dot shot the rest of the 550 rounds of federal one 50rd box of cci stingers which are fun and a 100rd box of minimags... It has not failed yet... I've shot a lot of 22s I usually very prefer pump actions and bolt and agree that they shouldn't be used for anymore then fun guns especially in a semi auto however if I had to use rimfire as a survival and defense weapon in semi auto I'd choose my mp with a 25rd magazine based on what I've seen so far.. I've shot my uncles 10/22 and my dads savage semi auto and I never thought rimfires could go through a thousand rounds with no failures and I was proven wrong I really like this gun.. It breaks down very easily for cleaning and mags are cheap!

Really like my Sig522. Feels very solid, uses cheap Black Dog mags and best of all has shot every type of .22lr ammo I've put through it (~7 different ones) with zero issues.

Seriously,SIG 522 is great rifle, although I did have to get the factory fix
for the E clip problem after a few thousand rounds--(the S&W has also had issues). Pete

I still say: If you have an AR* with a bullet button, and a compatible dedicated 22lr upper attached to a lower without one, if SHTF, it is a quick swap on lowers, and in BEE-SNUS. (Although the BB takes like 60+ seconds to swap for a STD mag release, but the lower swap would be quicker. )

That could be the case with yours. I also stated it was my experiences with my guns. Shortly after purchasing mine I was having problems with the shells extracting. I took it to my local shop and the gunsmith had the same problem. The S&W rep looked at it and after a good cleaning it has worked great as long as I completely strip it and keep it very clean. It is still my choice out of the three I own, I would recomend it to anyone.

A normal AR lower with a dedicated upper gets my vote.

I think you are forgetting about the coolness factor. Hands down the GSG-5 SD is a clear winner. Great plinker, EVERYTHING ELSE IS JUST AN AR. Then again I shoot a mini-14 . When I was in the Army , I shot this thing called a M16. Forearm made by MATTEL. Same company made my talking Bugs Bunny. Talk about a toy feel
