    10-22 parts

My buddy Carl from the BPAUX in San Diego has "gone to Texas" and is working with this new great company that's making 10-22 parts and a whole damn Remington 700 Chassis system -- look for me to review them --

Remove the ":" symbol at the end of the hyperlink, he attached the smiley too close.

Very interested since I am building 2 10/22s. Looking forward to your review.

For you 10/22'ers, how difficult is it to replace the barrel with a heavy barrel and stock? I really want one and I've been holding off buying a standard 10/22 until I figure out exactly what it takes to swap the barrel.

            its insanely easy to do.

-remove the screw from the bottom of the stock

-depress the safety half way and pull the receiver and barrel off of the stock

-unscrew the 2 screws in the v block and take the vblock off

            -pull the barrel out

            to install-

            -freeze the barrel for 15mins

-heat the receiver with a hair dryer so its almost too hot to handle

            -lube the joining areas

-put the new barrel in the receiver and put the gun back together

it takes about 20 mins including the 15 min freeze time

Do you freeze the barrel and heat the receiver to make the metal shrink and expand respectively?

Yep. That or you can file the barrel slowly and carefully, seems tedious and pointless to me though

                  Huh?
I have NEVER needed to freeze or heat the barrel and have swapped the barrels and stocks on fifteen 10-22s.
Blued 10-22s tend to come apart and together with little effort. And I would not file the barrel or receiver because they are made to specific tolerances. oji-san -- have you heard of freezing and heating the recover as much as peter is talking about? You must swap hundreds of 10-22 barrels a week.

Seriously, unless your rifle is completely corroded, or some of the stainless models -- the barrel comes right off after removing the V-Block and afermarket heavy barrels go right in -- that thing about heating up tyne recover until its almost too hot to touch is TOTALLY freaking me out.

I didn't have to do that, EVER -- and these are all different company barrels --

Thanks guys. Do you have a recommendation for what barrel I should use? I want to just get a standard Hogue overmold rubber stock, heavy barrel of course, but haven't decided on a barrel.

Green Mountain is a good barrel. I had problems with my particular sample of it, but they are heads and tails above the stock barrel and are in a good price point.

Both of my barrels said they are made a little large to allow for a custom fit and that you would have to do some work to fit them
