    Marlin 60 Thread

There may already be one somewhere, but how about a "Marlin 60 thread" to run along with the extensive "Marlin 795 thread"?

The 60 is more expensive than the 795 and no rebate, but there are more versions available, no mags to buy, holds 14 rounds vs 10 and no sore thumbs from loading the mags.

    Add a Spee-D-Loader and BAM! 8 re-loads per tube.

    Leapers/UTG .22/airgun 1-piece mount to add a scope.

Blackhawk mountain sling (with swivels), if desired.

    cdeviney,

I haven't shot my Marlin 60 in a good while but as many of you know the 60 is a classic that everyone should have. Oh yeah everyone goes for the 10-22 Rugers but no one touches a classic. The 795 appears to be a very popular model with everyone and I would consider getting one if my felt a urge to start shooting 22's again.

18 rounds for the older ones. Even cooler.

When looking at the 10/22 and the 60 and trying to decide which one to bring, the 60 wins every time.

I just picked up an older 18 shot from a member on here that wouldn't eject. Cleaned it up and took it out yesterday, I'll just say it's a tackdriver compared to my ruger. Way better sights, nice trigger, no sore thumbs, better stock

The model 60 is a decent rifle.
The best thing about it would probably be the barrel. It has a good profile and the microgroove rifling. I find it to be one of the more accurate .22s out of box.

The tube magazine is decent. I have the older model with the 18 round capacity which is nice in kali. However, my Dad found out if you don't lock the lug properly the tube will fly out when you release the bolt. Also, when I had a bad double feed it bent the bottom of the tube and it prevented the tube from being reinserted fully until I rounded it back out.
Loading the rifle can be a bit awkward and slow. I have not tried the speed loader yet. I am guessing loading the tube would actually be comparable to loading a magazine (magazine itself, not loading a mag into the rifle) of equal capacity in terms of time.

I bought mine from a charity auction on Gunbroker. It took a little time to get it running right. But inevitably the fix was simple and cheap. Boyds was having a sale on blem stocks, this walnut TH was unfinished. I've had several different scopes on it. It has a Center Point mounted now, and I'm really pleased with the accuracy. Especially when using some better ammo like Wolf MT or SK Standard +.

I shoot several rimfire rifles, but when ever I come back to the 60 I think.. hey this is fun.

I grew up shooting a Montgomery Wards Model 60.

Bought a Glenfield 60 (18 rounder w/ squirrel motiv) used here with sling. Cost more than a NIB Marlin 60. But I love it.

Bought a more recent wood Marlin 60 for my daughter.

Scope them up, and they shoot a 100 yard group tighter than you can believe!

At one time I had 9 of them. one for each of my 6 boys, one for me and a couple of extras for the stray cousins.
                  Heres a few

heres my first one, I got it new in 1975 at Kmart for $29.95. I cleaned it up and added a Boyds stock before giving it to one of my sons.

not a bad look for an old girl.

                  these are my two youngest

five of mine are now wearing Boyds stocks now. DR

We have 2 at the house, so simple and yet so efficient. One stays in the garage year round as the go to pest gun, target, can shooter, rabbit, grouse, etc. My favorite.

I have two of them. both need work. Darn marlins. i have a model 60 18 shot tube fed. Last time i took it out. Loaded it up went to fire and click. Recycled another round pulled trigger click. then i took a look at the shells. There was no sign of them being hit at all. my guess is firing pin. However this model the insides have a lot of plastic in it. So when i get the time i am just going to buy everything for the insides and do a complete rebuild.

My other is a Model 700 Big 5 model. This was especially made for big 5 back in the late 80's. It is magazine fed. I have two 7 round magazines and three 15 round magazines. Took it out today kept getting jammed up. The bolt seems to stick when it goes back. So for that one tomorrow i am just going to strip it all the way clean it and re lube it. i used to use gun oil. However i found the bolt sometimes would go back kinda slow. I switched some time ago to Graphite lube and it seems to work very well. So i got my work for me tomorrow. If i get some time i will post pics later on.

found a pic of my model 700 next to my .50Buckhorn

I'm getting nostalgic about all this Model 60 talk.
I may have to dust the old gal off clean her innards and go shoot her again.
Mine is an old 18 shot I got when I was 15 for Christmas from Sears that was in 1970.

Yeah, I got one of the older ones with the longer barrel. Picked mine up in a pawn shop for $100, cleaned it up, added a Boyd stock fresh optics.

No complaints, I like tube feeders.

Anyone got a Remington 552 they want to sell? Another tube fed semi-auto 22 that I like. Used to have one as a kid, am looking for another.

As a kid I had an old JCHiggins tube feed. Killed thousands of ground squrrils etc with it. Later I got a 10/22 but it never shot as well as the old tube feed.
When my daughter started shooting my 10/22 I got tired of loading mags for her so I got her a used 60(18 round) and let her take cre of the loading. Usually used a 550 round box of ammo each trip. I would buy them 10 at a time for $9.97 at wallmart. Her rifles shoots well. I would just take the stock off it and spray the heck out of it with brake clean spray and then but it back together dry. That way it runs longer between cleanings. Still going strong.

I had a friend back in New Jersey who had a 60. That dude was a great shot. I have never known the pleasure of a semi-auto, though. I started out with a bolt (Marlin m80) and got an m25 to replace it when it was "liberated" (stolen) from me. Just never saw the appeal.
