The one thing I would say against the .17 it is definitley the price thing..The 17 costs like 7 times what the good old .22 Rimfire costs,I can buy nearly 4000 rounds of .22 to 500 of the 17.A couple friends have rifles chambered in the .17 and really like them though but they hate the cost of the ammo however.....

The mission and role drives the equipment choice.

      Plain and simple. Choose accordingly.

It's harder to choose when most people's mission and roles here are:
        Mission: Shoot stuff
        Role: Do the shooting

Just picked up my Marlin 17. Got it used, it was owned by a competitive shooter. The trigger was replaced with a smoother one and it pulls like butter. Not sure of the brand yet.

Put a 3 9 X 40 scope on it and hit the range friday. Once I got it dialed it I was removing the centers of clays out past 100 yds. Had to hit the edges to destroy em. This is the first 17 I've ever shot and am sold on it for sure.

Cost of ammo needs to come down some to really take off. Kinda of heavy to lug around all day maybe. The 10 22 would be a better for in close and quick follow up shots.
