Ruger MK III 22/45 Reassembly...

Hi all,

I am having some trouble with the reassembly of my Ruger Mk. III 22/45 (first person to ever have issues, I know). The mainspring housing won't shut for the last quarter inch or so - please refer to picture below for where it gets stuck. I followed the disassembly/reassembly instructions per: http://guntalk-online.com/TroubleshootingPage.htm and see that the strut fell off the mainspring cap. However, per the attached picture it actually appears as though the strut is on the cap correctly - please correct me if I'm wrong. Additionally, from the attached picture can someone confirm that the sear and hammer assembly are in the correct position for reassembly? Thanks CalGunners!

The video below is a much more simplified version of any other video you can find. It's the one I show to anyone I know is new to the 22/45. He also specifically addresses where I believe you're having issues(mainspring housing and latch) at around 1:55 in the video. The reason I posted this video is because I watched the video above and for the issue you're having you just need clearer instruction. Also the gentleman in the video in the post above does not use a magazine. Oddly enough reassembly is seemless when the magazine is incorporated into the process as ruger intended it to be. That's because he has a MkII in the video, not a MkIII(the title of the video points that out). MkII models have no magazine disconnect, as such there is no need to involve the magazine.

Hmm I tried the magazine insertion + barrel pointed towards ceiling + pull trigger/hold it down - no luck.

Based off of your picture(the 2nd one) you're doing it wrong.

Remove the mainspring housing. Notice the hole in the part that goes along the grip(before it curves toward the top). You have the strut jammed up, it needs to go into the hole in that mainspring housing. If you're doing it right, you should see the strut flapping back and forth as you move the gun in your second picture. Pulling the trigger with the barrel pointed up is only to get the hammer back and out of the way of the bolt.

Call Ruger, they have a man standing by to help you reassemble your MK III.
Not that I had to call him the first time I tried to reassemble my MK III

Honestly the best advice I can give you is pull out your owners manual and carefully read the reassembly and follow it step by step. I also had trouble reassembling mine, but went slow and read carefully and it went back together fine.

Where are you located? It would probably take a lot less time for someone to show you rather than trying to explain it with words

My suggestion as well. As long as I take my time and follow step by step, I have no trouble getting the 22/45 back together. (It does seem to get easier after the first couple times.)

I have a MK3 Hunter, I think it is similar.
To close the main spring housing, I release the hammer.
To do this:
1. Put the empty mag in.
2. Pull the trigger, while pushing the hammer with a pin. This will release the hammer to the release position.
Now, you can try to close the main spring house. Make sure the hammer strut line up the main spring housing.

I used to charge 25 bucks as a silly-human fee to put those back together. Don't feel bad, it's very common to have trouble.

DO NOT FORCE IT. That's the best advice I can give that I don't see above.

Where are you located? It would probably take a lot less time for someone to show you rather than trying to explain it with words

Torrance...I'd definitely buy a guy a 6 pack or something as a silly human fee.

Merc, should the strut be resting on the cap as I swing the mainspring housing downwards? I tried popping it out and having the strut go the other direction and I couldn't move it at all. I'm sure this is way less complicated than I'm making it out to be

I am in Long Beach. If you have the time, I would like to get a shot at it. I am not sure how different your is compare to my Hunter MK3.
