Ruger Single Six Vs Single Ten

    Hi Guys,

Planning on getting a Ruger single six or single ten this thanks giving. I am leaning towards single six because it comes with 22 mag and 22lR cylinders.

What do you guys prefer? and also If single six blued or SS? I read that blued single six has aluminium handle and SS is complete stainless, so again thinking of getting Single six SS.

Want to know your take on these.

Also, Please let me know where can i get a Single Six or ten for cheap. At buds they are around mid 400s + $70 for FFL and DROS + tax = Mid 500s.

    thanks

Stainless is a great choice. Blue is fine though.

Shot my wife's single six yesterday and was hitting a 3 inch piece of steel at 48 yards about half the time. That little gun is accurate. The blued version works just fine.

I have owned a few single sixs over the years. They were nice little guns. The 22 mags were accurate, but switching to the 22LR the accuracy was not as good.Apparently the bullets are different diameter.I love both calibers and have owned the 17HMR as well.It was a balloon killer at 200 yards.Since I own the S&Ws now,I will stick with them.Stainless is always better, unless a person just like blued for some reason,or price dictates.I use Buds as well, but shops like Turners have good sales also.Clean used ones are bargains as well.Someone had a used like new for $250 at our local club a couple weeks ago.The 22 mag cylinder had never been used in it.

Durability? Stainless of course. Looks are up to you. Bores are identical on the single ten and single six. Accuracy is pretty much the same. Do you need .22 mag? Or would you rather reload less often? I rarely run into the person who routinely shoots .22 mag through their single six or even "needed" it in the first place.

I would say stainless is the way to go but with care the blue is just as durable 'cept they can rust .I used to have one in the 70s they are nice pistol I just don't care for S/A . The mag rounds seem twice as loud.

The questions for you are, whats it's use, will you shoot the magnum and which do YOU like blue or stainless. Is it going to be for fun range plinking or carrying when hiking or something like that. Blue of course is lighter than stainless. I will say shooting the magnum is fun because it has a little more pop to it but it's not as cheap as LR. As for 6 vs 10 if your not going to shoot mag then go for the 10, less reloading. For me there's something about a 6 1/2" blue that just says cowboy gun and shooting the magnum is just plain fun.

I had a 9 1/2" convertible (before some louse stole the sucker). It was blue because cowboys shoot blued steel (plus I don't think the dealer had SS one in stock at the moment). I got the long barrel to use as much of the magnum as I could and because a couple of other guns I have are similarly barreled. I prefer blue - until it's cleaning time. But then that won't happen too often with .22s. There is not the urgency to clean a .22 as there is with a centerfire handgun. (Don't yell at me, guys, I am quoting Milek here, and using my own guns as reference points)
I think an honest appraisal of your use is the correct approach. You and your kids and your grandkids won't wear out either one, so that shouldn't be an issue. If you might use it hunting, get the stainless, as it is less likely to be affected by possible blood. If all you're going to do is plink and shoot targets, go with whichever ones strikes your fancy.

Read that Single Six is not very accurate shooting 22LR, is it true? Is single ten more accurate?
I will be shooting 22LR most of the time, may be use 22 mag just for fun once in a while not that often.

Single six SS and Single ten are selling for same price.

                    thanks

Is single six accurate shooting 22LR?

                      thanks

The single six is fairly accurate for 22lr but is better with the magnums. The barrel is bored for the mag size which is a little bigger than the 22lr making accuracy for the LR not a comp. target gun. I learned from the Ruger forum that the single 10 is bored the same way which makes me belive that Ruger will someday make a 8 or 10 round magnum. If your looking for a comp. gun then a Smith or the new SP101 would be better. The SP is bored for 22lr. I hope this helps.

                          Thanks redhemi,

Will a occasional shooter/plinker see difference in accuracy? I currently shoot Marlin 795 with tech sights, which in my opinion is very good. If Single Six is close to that performance I want to get it. I love the look of Single Six in SS, but since its $500+ with tax and DROS i want to know if its worth the price.

                          thanks

                            WHAT A BEAUTIFUL WEAPON!!!!!!!!!!

                            Here's just another opinion.... mine.

I own a SS single six. I love it. I use the .22mag cylinder MORE than the .22LR, that's just me. I prefer SS to blue any day. I love the fact that the SS is a more "all weather" finish for harsh environments like when I'm camping in the cold, damp mountains for days.

Blue is perfectly fine, but SS is better in my opinion. (I'm not an expert, just giving my .02cents because the question is asking for everyone's opinions). With SS, there is less maintenance on the finish which is a BIG TIME plus for me. Many seasons, I've been quail hunting during the end of the season, only to be walking around in the rain. Having a little .22 sidearm in SS on my side is a great thing in wet conditions. I don't have to rush home or to the truck and spray it down with oil. I can do it later and not have to worry about it.

That being said, I definately would love to own the Single-Ten. 10 rounds in a SS package just looks awesome! Yeah it's only .22LR, but who cares? The trade off is that you get 10 rounds of .22LR vs. 6 rounds of .22MAG. I'll take that trade any day. If I really need a more powerful revolver on my side, I can carry a 6 shot .38spl or bigger. The (((R-E-P-O-R-T))) of a .22mag or .38spl is pretty much the same.... Darn loud!

I also have a genuine Colt "New Frontier" with interchangeable cylinders (.22LR/.22MAG). I love that blue gun as well. But to be able to carry a 10-shot revolver is absolutely priceless in my opinion.

I'd get the single-ten If I could only choose one gun. In fact, I believe that will be my next purchase, thanks to this thread!

I just checked the Komi DOJ website and did NOT see the Single-10 on the approved list! I didn't look that hard, but I do not believe it's legal to buy here in Cali. I hope I'm wrong!!!!!!!!!
