    Mach2 pressure?

I am considering making a single shot gun in .17 Mach2 rimfire.

I want to use a barrel sleeve by itself rather than glued or soldered inside a sleeve.

How much extra steel will I need around the chamber area to safely support the case?

    Thanks.

I do believe the chamber is also part of the barrel. The sleeve starts after the chamber.

You could measure a factory firearm. Really you want to fire a hm2 rimfire in just a sleeve like one used to reline a barrel. Do you have a video camera?

I suggest that you go to rimfirecentral.com. There is a 17HM2 subforum that may be of some help. Just be safe.

I believe most rimfires are close to tha tsame pressures, somehwere around 22-24k. Granted its not what you asked for, but my NAA revolver in .22lr only has a barrel thickness of .060" and the wall of the cylinder is only .035" at its thinnest. It doesnt take much to contain a rimfire. Would I shoot it out of just a liner? Probably not, the material it is made of my not be designed to handle the pressure. But a small steel sleeve of say 1/16-1/8" wall would probably work fine.

There are a lot of engineering principles/physics that go into making a useable and safe firearm. A rimfire cartridge may appear to be small but they are DANGEROUS when used in the wrong manner. I would be concerned about your safety in trying to do this.
