Looking for a fun range toy. Nothing to expensive but not cheap. I was looking into the beretta neo and rugar mark lll. Let me know of any suggestions I do not have a huge amount of 22 pistol experience but want an accurate well rounded gun, trigger, cleaning, etc would love any input or first hand experience.

I was in same boat. I been researching for month and decided on ruger mk III 22/45 target. Mine is in 10 day jail. 7 more days to go. You can't beat the price... My local store Ruger MKIII 22/45 was cheaper then buckmark and I think better then Neo or S&W 22a. I like the same grip design as my 1911's.
Ruger MKIII 22/45 5 inch Target model had everything I wanted for my range toy.Last edited by bh6300; 09-23-2011, 1:46 AM.Comment

I love my U22 Neos with the 6" barrel. Most accurate little .22lr pistol I've ever shot. I added a cheap red dot to the rail, and I can pick off clay pigeons out to 100 yards with it any day with any bulk ammo I can find.
Unfortunately, they fell off the CA roster so you'd have to get a used one via PPT, or have an out of state son/dad/grandpa type relative sell you one.
I like the older ruger mk I and mk II, but I haven't messed with the newer mk III. The I and II are some of the most reliable and well built .22lr pistols I've ever used, and they're fairly accurate to boot although I've never liked their iron sights much."The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. get a decent target pistol. buck mark and neo are all still plankers.
here are some of the decent choices. (not the best, but much better than the MK3, buck mark, or neo, GSG dont even compare)
beretta 87 target
High standard supermatic or victor
S&W M41 (used)
IZH 35M if you can find it.Comment

Pretty sure the OP just wants a gun to shoot targets, not necessarily a "target" pistol. It even says so in the post."The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure."

The June/July issue of Handguns had a comparison test of .22 semiauto pistols.

The Browning Buck Mark came out on top.Revolvers are not pistols
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel

Darn......it's so hard to decide, so I figured I'd cover all the bases and just buy BOTH. lol.
Ruger Mark III (with some mods)......
and.....
Browning BuckMark Target.......

Can't go wrong with either one......

I like the Mosquito, but you need to feed it CCI minimags and then its very reliable.
How about the S&W 22A?
I got both but probably shoot the Mosquito more, its a mini P226 but tons cheaper to plink with."Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." - Benjamin Franklin

That Ruger is beautiful!
I have a Ruger Mark III Target and I bought it for plinking and messing about at the range. It's easy to use and easy to shoot. I haven't cleaned it yet 'cause I hear it's a pain in the behind and I'm trying to delay as long as I can.
But, in all, I liked the grip angle of the Mark III better than I did the 22/45. So, it's all a matter of preference.
