10-22 for all the various custom options both factory and aftermarket.

Marlin 60 for out of the box accuracy at a budget.

Marlin 39 great accuracy, old school style, take down.

10/22 has the best aftermarket support, you can literally turn it into any configuration (within reason and our state's stupid laws) you want.
One of my big pluses for me wanting to get a 10/22 is the "tri-mag," which is three ten round mags connected to each other via a hub and when you reload, you just take it out, and insert it back from another magazine.

The tri-mag? I've seen them for sale here on CGN a while ago (1 1/2 years ago).

It's actually not a "tri-mag," that's just what I called it for lack of better words. TriMag is it's trademark name also, It's actually a "mag coupler," or in this case a "tripler," since it holds three 10 round mags. Here's a link to some:

I've been thinking about a 10/22 for a while, but with Big 5's $139 (after $25 rebate), on the Marlin 795, how can you go wrong?

In my case, other than sights, I don't expect to be altering the 795. It will be a stock plinker.

My 795 was put into government required custody last night.

Big 5 folks are great, but, in going through the process (again) yesterday I was reminded of how idiotic and inane the government paperwork and process are. For which, I had the honor (??) of paying $25.

Was debating between the 10/22 and 795. I just put the 795 in jail this morning. In the end, the price is what swayed me towards the 795. For the price, I can mod the 795 and still end up below the price of a 10/22. The money saved can go towards ammo and mods.

I have a Savage 64 with a cheap Barska scope. It is a tack driver on most days. The black plastic stock feels chintzy, but what the heck. It works well.

I have also been shooting a Marlin 60 that belongs to a friend. It is an older (1970's) variant with the longer barrel and mag tube. It holds about 20 rounds and is also very accurate. It has last round hold-open and a scope dovetail as standard features.

I owned a 10/22 about 20 years ago and liked it a lot. The 10/22s sold today are not the same as they used to be. Cheaper fit and finish and lack of overall feel. I am having a hard time justifying paying the premium for a 10/22 over a Marlin 60. The Marlin (and Savage) are dead accurate out of the box and have provisions for a scope mount. Less money, too.
Just taking up space in (what is no longer) the second-worst small town in California.

Ya I just put a 795 in jail today also, from big5 and no you cant go wrong for 139. Im looking to maybe put a boyds wood stock on it after a while. Seen what it looks like, and I like it, plus with the price and the custom stock it will still be under the price of some stock 10/22's
