Dont forget about the tactical 22's, Mossberg makes a cheap one, S&W 15-22 is kinda cheap but much higher quality. Walther makes the G22 in a bullpup design if thats your bag. I have never heard any of the acuracy problems youve mentioned about the 10-22

10-22 is by far the most popular, its very well made but a little bland and utilitarian. I like a little more flash with my 22

Stock accuracy is insane. If anything, upgrade the sights if you have a problem but my friend is bonkers with the stock irons.

IMO the 10/22 is THE SINGLE .22 rifle to own. If I could only have one .22 it would be it. I think you are misinformed.

            Don't get a Marlin 795, they don't even compare to the 10/22.
Honestly i agree. The 1022 is single handedly the best platform not because I'm bias necessarily. I just like all the mods. The out of box accuracy and reliability and the quality. I am not a huge fan of the marlins at all. But a 22 is a 22 an if u are determined enough like most of us are, due to modern day modifications and DIY'ers across the www your capable of creating a great weapon/ tack driver out of any 22 these days. So u can't really go wrong but I would go with a 1022 just me.

Ok, so maybe not in build or feel, but you're trying to say that in function/reliability/accuracy? That's pretty bold.

Don't worry so much. If you're like most gun types you're going to end up owning several .22s anyway. Go ahead and get the 10/22; there's an almost limitless number of things you can do with it. Then get yourself one of the cheaper autoloaders when they're on sale.

Then get yourself a good, accurate bolt action with a quality scope on it.

And, of course, when you've saved up more money after buying all those we can talk about handguns.
People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

this sounds logical... and when I turn 21, or move to gun friendly state.... then we will talk handguns

as 77bawls mentioned earlier though, what is up with 1022 trigger? that is one of the "problems" that was mentioned on many forums. is that normal for the standard trigger? will I have to replace it soon, or is it one of those "replace if you feel the need"

+1. I have two 795 LTR's and plan on a CZ bolt action next. This is on top of my handguns and shotguns. The only thing you can be certain of is you will always be broke.

I walked into Big 5 last week with the intention of buying the Savage 64XFP that was on sale but walked out with a (receipt for a) Ruger 10/22. I also gave the Marlin 795 a long look, but in the end, the Ruger just looked and felt nicer than both the other two. I also like how the magazine sits flush.

sirsloth: you won't be disappointed. First mods are the auto bolt release and extended mag release imo.

I went through the same debate, 10/22 vs marlin 795. I'm picking up my 795 next week. Knowing myself, I'd spend too much $ on aftermarket parts if i got a 10/22. The Marlin 795 is cheap right now, big 5 and turners have it for $135 and there's a $25 mail-in rebate. Hop online and buy some mags, plinker scope, and a bipod, and still come out around the price of a 10/22.
