Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. Jefferson's "Commonplace Book," 1774_1776, quoting from On Crimes and Punishment, by criminologist Cesare Beccaria, 1764 -
For rimfire targets, we are not talking about tanerite. The little targets have about as much poop as a half a rool of red paper caps. They have been on the market for over 25 years and, to my knowledge, no one has ever been charged (let alone convicted) of any crime having to do with these. I sure don't think these targets are what BWeise was refering to back in '07.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

Bweise says "I have to say the situation was not at all helped by 22 yr old former Airsoft douches who kept touting here, "But possession is not illegal!" "
Fighting on the internet is like being in the special Olympics , everybody wins but your still retarded.

Apparently they are only illegal if you laugh after the target goes boom. They (target indicators) must not have "entertainment" value- I am not joking, according to bwiese, that's the law.
Meanwhile Mr tanner at www.tannerite.com maintains that his product is nothing more than black powder and is therefore 100% legal
What if I am approached by an authority and questioned about my targets?
Be honest. Show them your Tannerite, explain what you are doing, and if they have further questions, offer them our phone number and website. We have been educating LEOs on Tannerite for many years. If you are doing something stupid though (like strapping targets to trees or otherwise destroying property on public lands) we will not support you. Tannerite is sold as a shot-indicator for long range shooting. If you get nailed for blowing up a computer and leaving trash on public property like so many idiots on You-tube, you are on your own. If you are told to stop shooting because others are complaining about the noise, then stop. Do not be as *** and taunt the bull.
How could something so fun, be legal everywhere?
Answer: Because Tannerite falls under the same laws as black powder and all other explosives that are exempt for sporting use. Refer to the link in the previous paragraph for more hard information on all binary explosives manufacture and use. Remember though, just because it’s a legal product if used as prescribed, does not mean that you can use it in any manner you wish. Not unlike firearms, you can legally shoot them, but there are places where it is forbidden. It is up to the end-user to obtain local authority permission before using our product unless it’s on private property. Even then, if you live close to others it’s best to contact them and explain what you are doing…the same as you should do if you set out to cap off your bowling ball cannon or shoot your 5o caliber rifle.

I've never seen bwiese make such a statement.Apparently they are only illegal if you laugh after the target goes boom. They (target indicators) must not have "entertainment" value- I am not joking, according to bwiese, that's the law.

^^ This! I know of at least 1 local gun shop that stocks it. I've seen it at another shop 'bout an hour north. And I think I've seen it at Turners in Reseda. I doubt these shops would be selling illegal explosives. I also remember seeing it at the local gun shows.
Just a note, though Tannerite is legal, you should be careful of how and where you use it, just as you would a firearm. I'm sure there is legal red-tape somewhere that might prevent its use in certain areas, like National Forest or within city limits, things like that.
Personally, I'd like to find an area near by where I could use it. Since I can buy it locally, I want to try some. I can also get those bleeding zombies with holes in the back of the head and chest for placing Tannerite once you're done making it bleed and want to finish with an explosion.ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕComment

Ehhhh.... Okay... IF you say so...
As I've said, if guys who are very much in the know in CA and some lawyers would not be comfortable with possession... Neither am I.
That means nothing... I've seen two shops in N. Cali selling the SSAR-15's which are generally understood to be illegal in California. ---Such a mistake is understandable considering how complex and convoluted the law is in CA.^^ This! Anyway, you have to remember that Tannerite is not an explosive, but the argument is and has always been that it could be considered a destructive device.Originally posted by BannedinBritainThe only dumb question is the one you don't ask...and get arrested for later.Comment

Yes exploding targets are legal in CA. They are called ground squirrels. Enjoy! The thing with firearms is that they are not like any other consumer product, simple ownership of one carries a lot of responsibility.
Some idiots are too busy knowing it all to ever learn anything
