    My tacticool .22lr AR build

This is my 3rd AR build, and my most heavily used gun at this point. This thing simply performs flawlessly, I have put nearly 1000 rounds of bulk ammo through this baby without a SINGLE malfunction yet.

    Parts used:

    - CMMG M4 LE Evolution upper with stainless bolt, stainless collar and anodized finish (purchased from this Calgunner: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=426135)
    - UTG free float mid-length quad rail
    - UTG bipod
    - Simmons .22 Mag 3-9x32 scope with UTG high profile rings
    - Spikes lower
    - Palmetto State Armory LPK with Ergo Suregrip
    - Magpul AFG
    - Magpul MOE trigger guard
    - Magpul CTR mil-spec stock
    - Magpul ASAP end plate
    - Troy rail covers

There should be a .22 LR AR-15 Calguns crew.. they are popping up everywhere!!

I thought the LE came with a front sight post? Did you remove it and put a gas block on?

The LE did come with a front sight post pinned on. I initially was going to run a drop in carbine length hand guard, but quickly realized I didn't have enough rail length for the accessories I wanted to run. I removed front sight and carbine handguard, and replaced with the free float mid-length.

No gas block necessary, as the action is a blow-back design.

Did you ever mount the scope with the front sight still on? Did it get in the way of the view?

No gas block makes me happy

I did actually. It was not in the sight picture, so it would have worked well.

Just need to make sure you use a hi-mount set of rings.

Very nice. I have a similar AR-22 build in the works too. I already have these parts for it.

                    Mega Gator stripped lower
PSA lower parts kit w/ Magpul MOE grip & trigger guard
                    PSA Magpul MOE stock kit
                    Magpul MOE carbine handguards
                    GG&G BUIS
Primary Arms M3 RDS w/ high cantilever mount
                    Black Dog 10rd mags

I plan to order this CMMG Evolution upper from shadow65.

                    CMMG Evolution M4 LE
                    SST bolt with forward assist
                    Mil-spec anodized
                    SS go/no go collar
                    BHOA
CMMG BHOA 10rd mags (when they become available)

This build does cost more than a S&W M&P 22 but it much more closely replicates the 5.56 M4 carbine.

                      Nice list of parts.

Not only does it more closely replicate a true 5.56 M4, but you have a platform that doesn't utilize a proprietary receiver made of polymer.

Nothing beats the modularity of an AR based rifle.

You'll like the M3 clone. I bought a Primary Arms M4 clone and mounted it on my 5.56 carbine. I couldn't be any happier with it.

Thanks. I checked out the M&P22 due to the low cost but decided against it and go with this build instead. I took my son shooting for the first time last month and he had a blast with the Sig 522. I decided to build the AR-22 for him (to be honest, it's for me too ) to make the transition to the AR-15 easier down the line, he did take a few shots out of my 16" midlength so he is well on his way.

Although the Sig 522 is reliable and a nice shooter it will probably be sold once the AR-22 is built.

Sounds like you are on the right path. Before you know it, you'll have four or five rifles patterned on the AR platform, lol.

I've got a 5.56 Carbine and an LR-308 in addition to the AR-22. My next build will be an 18" mid-length 6.8SPC. You can say that I'm pretty much hooked on this platform.

Yep, already have another build planned out before the AR-22 is even finished. Looking at building a 14.5" carbine with this PSA upper.

I guess you can say i'm hooked too. Even thinking of selling my W. German P226 to help fund these builds .

Have you considered doing a 14.5" mid-length? It's a much softer shooter and the impact on the gun's action isn't as harsh with the longer gas tube. A good friend of mine put together a 14.5" mid-length with a Battle Comp compensator and it shoots like an absolute dream.

After my 6.8 that is what I will be building.
