I use the Aguila Super Colibri in my old Remington Model 12 pump.
My 10/22 has a 1:9 barrel and I shoot a lot of the 60 grain SSS. With that barrel, my groups improved with hyper velocity .22 lr too.

I'm not doubting your word. It just goes against everything that competitive shooters have learned from experience. Are you talking about one particular ammo in one particular barrel?

In my 10/22 I mostly shoot Aguila Super Max H V 30gr. @ 1750 fps,
Aguila Interceptor 40gr. @ 1470 fps
and Aquila Sniper Sub-Sonic 60 gr. @ 950 fps.

When I switch between the 3, I usually only adjust the elevation. Not being a competitive shooter, I don't tend to over think about what I'm doing. I've been shooting .22's for almost 60 years and learned "Kentucky windage" at an early age.

The Aquila SSS is what I use in my Sig Mosquito and get a few rounds tumbling @ 25 yards. Beyond that they almost all tumble.

I know it doesn't answer your question directly but with my .22 short revolver the subsonic rounds reduce noise substantially

I've read about .22 LR that fire from primer only no powder fwiw

The calibre doesn't cycle at all, but if using a 10/22 OE mag you can load about 5rds and manually charging the handle will cycle the rounds with no issues. I've clocked them in at 601-607fps in my sons cricket. I have to say though, their not accurate past 25 yards.

Is there any way to get quiet performance like that and maintain the look of a "normal" 10/22? without losing accuracy past 25 yards?

oh yeah, most important, no danger of squibbs? cycling the action every single round is a-ok.

They seem to be happy with accuracy. Seems like a way to get a 10/22, optimize for subsonic, then have a barrel for accuracy target shooting also? if not cheap, then should maximize the capability for accuracy and silence?

as you are shooting in your own backyard you could use a muffler of sorts. a 55gallon barrel with both ends removed and foam padding around the inside to shoot through. with that and Standard velosity rounds, you can cut the noise down alot. probably enough the neibors wouldnt even notice. DR
