CMMG/Clint Beyer 5" .22LR Upper

Clint Beyer sent me a barrel to try out on my CMMG Evolution upper.
The barrel is very light weight. It utilizes an aluminum body with a steel liner. Very well made. Very slick looking.
Clint will be offering fluted barrels in the same configuration (aluminum body and steel liner) Beautiful!

I took the upper to break the barrel in today. More to get an idea than for precision results. I didn't take my camera.
I was shooting Fed Bulk and Winchester Bulk copper wash 36 gr. HP's.
Also using a UTG 4X scope.
After some rounds getting the scope dialed in I fired for more precision.
Shooting at 25 yards, I was shooting groups with the rounds touching on the target. Of course, using the bulk pack, I had fliers. But It shot consistantly enough to show me it's a very capable barrel.
I'll be shooting some Wolf MT next time.
Very impressive if you are looking for a super accurate, very short barrelled .22 upper
It kept the bulk pack subsonic 90% of the time.

SpecOps13 has done a couple write ups on Clints barrels. In his words, Clints barrels make bulk pack ammo shoot like match ammo. Leaving out my fliers, I believe it.
I'll post some pics with some decent ammo for groups.

Can CA residents have short barrelled pistol uppers?

If they have a "Pistol Lower", then yes they can... Which means they either have to buy/DROS it as a "Single Shot Pistol Lower"... Or they have to make it themselves out of an 80% Paperweight. Either way, it has to be built/purchased as a "Single Shot", and can then be converted immediately afterwards.

As long as it remains a pistol (I.e., less than 16" barrel & no buttstock) then they should be good to go.

I'll have to do some more research to find out if there are any other restrictions. I've actually been wanting a .22LR Pistol upper for my Pistol AR.


EDIT: Keep in mind that with an AR-Style .22LR PISTOL you will be REQUIRED to run a bullet button. I've heard rumors that people have been making this mistake as of late as they think that the law is the same for rimfire rifles as pistols (and it is not). Always remember to check the AW Flowcharts!!!!!

I ask becuase CMMG just released it's 6.5" .22 barrel. I'm sure uppers are soon to follow. They are a blast to shoot. Failrly accurat too.
My test model ran 100% with no changes to the BCG or springs.

If getting a pistol lower wasn't a PITA or cost you your first born these things would sell like hotcakes. Hopefully the price for a single shot comes down and/or more dealers decide to start selling them at reasonable prices.

Will CMMG have any plans to release other short barrels in 22LR ? Like in 7 - 9 inch range ? I thought there was an 11 inch being talked about .

We had talked about a 10" .22LR barrel. It was like pulling teeth to get these released. I would imagine they will see how these sell, which I know they will, to offer other barrel lengths.
