I'm looking into a new .22 rifle as a fun range gun and i really like the AR ergos, but i don't want to sacrifice alot of accuracy just to have the pattern. I'm not looking to spend alot of money on a rifle so my main choices are looking like the S&W 15/22, the sig 522, and the Ruger 10/22. I'm leaning toward the 10/22 because i suspect it is more accurate out of the box and it is much cheaper. Apart from a cheap scope and or a set of tech sights are the only real mods I'd be interested in, so aftermarket isn't a big factor here. Anyone have any opinions on this?

"Tactical" patterned .22lr rifles vs 10/22 accuracy.

I think my 10/22 is probably marginally more accurate than my 15-22, but then I've got a 4-16x42 scope on my 10/22, and just a RDS with a magnifier on the 15-22.NRA Life Member

An issue brought up by nutnfancy (nutnfancy haters tune out now) concerned me, and that was that you can induce a change in poi when using a bipod by "loading" it. Is that one of those issues where "if-that's-what-happens-when-you-do-that-then-don't-do-that"?Comment

if you're looking for 'one-hole' accuracy, neither will do them without extensive accurizing; yet both have 'four leaf clover' group capability.

Accuracy advantage of 10-22 really comes from all the aftermarket stuff you can do to them, id still give it a slight edge out of the box though, but the fun factor of the 15-22, Sig522, et al. is really hard to argue. The California Moderate Centrist Militia member in exile

Dollar for dollar I would say you get more with a 10/22.
If you want to spend a lot of money the ar based 22 can be outstanding but it will cost you.
You can stake a bone stock 10/22 and do a bunch of the diy mods and make a great shooting little gun.
IE add tech sites, trigger job and re crown the barrel.

10/22 all the way. Accurate right out of the box.Comment

out of the box I think it depends on the shooter and the ammo, at least as far as I've been able to tell. you will be able to mod the 10/22 a lot more, but i'm happy with leaving mine alone for the most part.Comment

after seeing the Archangel Marauder stock kit for the 10/22, I'd say get the 10/22, slightly more accurate, and I mean very slightly, and then purchase the Marauder kit and you have a G36 clone .22lr for much less than you would have spent on an MP 15-22 or Sig 522Comment

I think I'd leave it as is. Not a big fan of tactical rifle costumes.

I have had both and I will take the 10/22 over the 15-22 for accuracy, but keep in mind i am thinking 10 rounds in 1/2 in at 25 yardsPennys Dad

You have a lot more aftermarket barrel choices for the 10/22 than 15-22. Not to mention easy barrel change for the 10/22.
I replaced the factory Ruger barrels with Volquartsen barrels. Both would shoot .5" to. 75" groups at 50 yards with match ammo. Not sure what can be done on 15-22s in that dept.GCC
