.22 AR-15 Style Rifle Buying Recommandation

    Hi Everybody,

New to forum, and new to shooting. I've always loved the looks of the AR-15 rifle and was hoping to make a purchase of a .22 calibur one to shoot at the range. I was wondering if anybody can recommand me some really reliable/cheap AR-15 style .22 rifles. It would be nice to also recommand like a high end, middle, and low end just for giggles and comparasion. Some of my friends suggest I go with an actual AR-15 rifle and buy a .22 conversaion kit. Do you guys recommand that? and if you do then which would you recommand. Thanks in advance for all the feedbacks and help. Sorry but I am a noobie on this and any advice will be appreciated. My friend suggest I get a Daniel Defense M4v2, not sure what that is exactly but I'm sure members here do. I'll probably google it later, but is that a good rifle?

For fun right out of the box S&W M&P 15-22. If you can find it get the MOE edition. Accurate and functions just like a .223 caliber AR. Unlike other companies that just copy the look but not the full function of an AR.

The 15-22 will feed most of the bulk ammo with the exception of a couple that honestly are not recommended for most semi .22's.

I have around 4,000 rounds through mine without any problems. Fun for the whole family.

I would get a 5.56 AR first, then get a dedicated .22 upper.
CMMG with stainless bolt has been the most reliable and has the best features plus made from real AR parts that I have found. No plastic upper receivers. Put together just like a standard AR so if you ever want to change or add something, you just use most anything an AR would use.

I have a Colt Umarex M16 that is a fun little shooter. It's quite accurate and has the same heft as the real deal. I have maybe 8000-9000 rounds through mine and it just seems to shoot better and better.
Getting a 22LR upper for a legit AR is really only a good idea if you already have an AR. Building one up is going to cost a bit more, but you do get better options for customizing.

I agree and that was going to be my recommendation swell.

Then you can get the DDM4V when you decide to upgrade to full size.

This. M&P 15-22 is the best one going right now.

Another one for the M&P15-22. Do a search. There was a poll a few weeks ago on this exact question. M&P15-22 won by 3X the next closest choice. There really is no better choice in this realm. Just buy it and go have fun.

not an AR, but take a gander at the GSG-5. H&K style that they use in the movies, and a lot of fun

Wow. I guess M&P15-22 is the winner. Thanks everybody for your feedback and expert advice. Is that the one that is made by Smith & Wesson?

                      This!

If you want the real feel and function of an AR then this is the closest and best option. Put together a stripped lower with a lower parts kit, stock kit & Raddlock and add the CMMG .22LR upper. If you decide to shoot 5.56 later on, you can just pick up a 5.56 complete upper and switch between the two.

I plan on selling my Sig 522 to fund a CMMG .22LR upper to mimic my M4gery.

                      Just my .02

I just got my HK 416 .22lr and it's sweet. I choose this over the Smith & Wesson M&P because the upper & lower receiver isn't polymer like the M&P and I like the sights better. The HK also has a more solid feel to it and has a much nicer stock, match grade precision barrel, storage in the pistol grip and the butt stock! I also think the HK is better looking. Either way, it's a choice and I don't think you can go wrong with the HK or MP.

Check out the pic- it's pretty bad*****

The sights definitely have a cool factor bonus over the M&P's stock A2 style sight. Question, though. Serious question, not sarcastic: is the lower on this made the same way, same materials, etc., as the lower on the Umarex-Colt offerings?

The HK is made by Umarex.
