Recomend me a .22lr rifle platform!

    Background:

I'm fairly new to shooting. I started with a Mosin, which was great fun with surplus ammo but it the cleaning requirements of corrosive ammo got old. I couldn't use the gun casually.

Next I built a fairly nice (expensive) AR to attempt to fill the void. I chose the platform for the advantages the AR platform offers. I failed to take into account the legal liabilities and again this isn't a rifle I can use casually. If I lived in another state my search would be over, I love this rifle.

    Which brings me to .22LR:

I want something I can just go out and shoot with out being paranoid about keeping it clean or paranoid about having to explain why I have it. Cost of ammunition is also a big consideration. I hate going BANG! 'there was $0.50'.

Primarily I want the most trigger time possible with the least amount of support time.

To put it in list form:

    1. Minimum cleaning requirements. I want something that as long as I keep it well oiled it will cycle reliability.
    2. High quality, something that will stick around for a while and gives a nice user experience. Id be willing to go as high as $500 to get this.
    3. Accuracy. I'm not great at shooting, but the last thing I want is the rifle to be suspect.
    4. Easy take down and reassembly. Something on par with ARs and Mosins.

What im willing to give up:

    1. I don't care if its semi auto or not.
    2. I don't care about magazine capacity as long as it's not single shot
    3. I don't care about tactical anything. I'm a iron sight guy.
    4. I don't care if it's a popular choice or not.

I have been looking at Marlins, Remingtons, CZs and Savages. Hoping some people with experience can shed some light on the choices.

Long post I know, thanks for the help!

    Bolt--CZ hands down.

Semi--I only have experience with the 10-22 so far. It is not accurate out-of-the-boax, but there are innumerable upgrade which will make a real tack driver out of it.

If your not into "keeping it clean", Ruger 10/22 is a bit more time consuming when it comes to cleaning the rifle. I own a Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 and I love it. Its accurate, reliable, and very easy to clean.

            Thanks for the responses.

rimfirecentral is new to me, checking it out.

I'm shying away from the 10/22 because I have fried them at ranges and wasn't terribly impressed with it. The idea of a CZ that is accurate out of the box is appealing.

If the M&P 15-22 is a good option, why not get a CMMG conversion kit for my AR-15? I do like the idea of a nice wood bolt rifle, but maybe its a more practical option?

As far as cleaning, what I prefer to do are extremely through cleanings with long service intervals in between. With my AR I have been keeping it very wet with CLP and it has been performing flawlessly, I very much like how it is working out.

Second like CZ 452F S which is the Mannicher stock is the one I like but any of the 452's are very nice guns and they make a semi in 22 rf and 22 mag also if you can find one BRUNO semi in 22mag great gun I have had one for years with no problems and very accurate

6 more days till I pick up my 795. Came to me as a highly recommended model. Cheap and reliable.

Well guys if you had to learn to shoot all over again, and you had to decide between a Marlin 975 and a CZ 452 which would be?

Assuming the rifle is in out of the box form, no mods.

Well if you want a versatile accurate plinker then the 795. (I've had a lot of sub 1/2 inch groups) If you ever plan on doing AppleSeed then semi auto will come in handy

If you want to slow it down and hone skills then the CZ 452 would be a fine choice.

Btw they are not out in great numbers yet but Marlin has the new xt-22 which comes in many forms. I'm partial to the RZ model!

Since you have an AR how about either getting a 22 conversion kit or a 22 upper?

Browning Buckmark Rifle , better accuracy out of box than Ruger 10/22.
Same Magazines as pistol ( one of each makes me happy)

If you go with a Marlin 60 or 795 be advised that the recoil spring can be a bear to get in and you will have to replace then many times. They go on back order a lot.
