Sell or Scrap (Marlin model 81-DL)

I have an old Marlin model 81-DL-22 CAL-S-L-LR that I got 35+ years ago (but it's a bunch older than that) when a private school's rifle range closed down. It looks somewhat like the one from this sale, only in worse condition.

The stock is more scratched, the receiver/barrel has less bluing remaining (some light rust) and the little metal piece that guides the bullet into the barrel is broken (see the 5th picture from the above sale for an unbroken version).

It might be worth something to a person who restores guns for a hobby, but it's hard to say.

I'm not sure how to identify just how old it really is (probably worth a bit more if it's an older one).

So any thoughts about if it's worth anything to anyone? How would I determine age, value, etc?

And in anticipation of any PMs, no, I don't know what I'm asking for it (that's why I'm posting here) and it's located in Sonoma County (for IF it has any value).

Too good of a rifle to scrap out. I have had several of the rifles, still do, and find them to be great shooters. Parts are available, fairly easy to repair.

If nothing else, someone would probably buy it for parts.

You'd be amazed what someone skilled can do with a "junk" firearm.

does it have the same sights? if so Its worth $80 to $110 depending on how Beat up it is. if you can post a pic of the actual rifle you will get a better idea of its age and value. the one you have pictured is probably C&R. but pics of your rifle are the only way to tell. DR

Looks like something you might be able to sell cheap, which is certainly better than scrapping it. I don't know if it's collectible or not, but if someone wanted a cheap project to learn about restoration, refinishing, etc. that's definitely in usable condition.

As noted in the base-note I'm in Sonoma County, and figuring out a value is exactly what this thread is about. A $60-$100 range was tossed out there at one point.

Of course I'd like $100 but I don't know if it's worth that to anyone. I just want to be fair to BOTH parties (not take anyone, not get taken).

Too bad you're not in Arizona....you could just sell it in the parking lot at the next Gun Show. Legally and for cash.

those guns fix up very easily. I have three right now (single shot, removable magazine, and tube magazine)

If I were at a gun show I would buy it for $100 if nothing was broken.
