CMP what dealer is that?

Click on the .22 Target surplus button and look for Kimber 82G.

They are the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP). They sell surplus US Gov rifles, ammo and other gun stuff. The Kimbers were purchased by the Army for competition shooting but never issued. The non-rustys are sold out ($600) but they still have some rustys available ($400+shipping). Most folks report no rust when receiving their rifle, some a little but never heard of a lot of rust in any of them. Also you can expect to have a box cutter slice on the stock from the bag being cut open for inventory. Mine has 2 but not deep and hard to see except in just the right lighting.

Its a heavy beast, 10.5 lbs and not suitable for packing around in the woods. I use it for benchrest shooting only. Fantastic peep sights and grooved for mounting a scope. Remember its a SINGLE SHOT rifle.

CMP is one of the few ways you can actually get any of your tax money back. Okay, your parents tax money back.

Having that long brown box show up at your doorstep is a wonderful thing.

You have to jump through a few hoops as far as eligibility but it is worth it.

There is alot of great info in here. I would also go with the 22lr. Small game and just putting holes in things its hard to go wrong. I do love my 22 mag though its more for hunting than anything else for me.

Yes, first purchase was a couple of months ago. Takes a while to get your rifle/stuff but my Kimber 82G is the best shooter that I have. Out shoots my CZ, Savage, Mossberg and Marlin by a wide margin (well the CZ is close). If one can live with a single shot its the best bang for the $$$ going. Some say the value will double when there are no more to be had. Not my prediction but I wouldn't sell mine anyway. Great rifle and a piece of history.
