      A zombie can only be stopped be removing large chunks of rotting matter from their body. This task is usually accomplished with a 12 gauge shotgun.

          Think about it.

          Headshots to decaying flesh - .22 right in the skull-la-rony will put a zombie down.

          Quiet enough to not attract other dead heads. Shotguns are cool, but you have to be far enough so that you don't get infected blood on you.

          Of course, running zombies is a game changer. But your standard George A. Romero slow movers don't have a chance with a good .22 rifle with a plinking scope.

          Running zombies definitely require a fortress with heavy firepower, including some Molotov cocktails.

              I know 22lr is good for coconut destruction at 25, 50, 75 and 100 yards. You just have to hit the coconut.
              My choice for zombie battles:
              12g = Clears a path
              22lr rifle = keeps a path open
              .45 = back up

Then a .22LR would be great since you'll have all the time in the world to set up your shot, take aim, and take them out in 1 or 2 shots to the head pretty easily.

                  But if you have regular people turning into 'zombies' where they are infected by some type of virus, thus their body still holding most gross motor skills (running for example), then I'd much rather have a larger caliber than a .22LR to stop them faster and more effectively. Even a 9mm in that case would be a better choice for me, but this is again my opinion.

                  BTW, the baseball bat idea is always good, but I just love it (really hate) when in movies they show people bashing zombies with a bat or some large bludgeon object, and blood cast off is going everywhere and they have no protection on (no mask over their mouth, no goggles, etc).

                  I'm just saying...

                    If nothing else having 22 LR rifles around are perfect for the youngsters in case of an outbreak. My niece has gotten pretty good at shooting rotted apples at 75 yards with open sights.

                    The 22 is also good for when your on the move. A bit easier to shoot if your running and it's cheap suppression.

                      Very good point. When the rush happens, I can arm my 10 year old to provide more firepower. If the zombies are anything like the zombies in Robert Kirkman's "The Walking Dead" comic book title then 22LR is perfect.

                        I would use a scoped .22 for a perimeter rifle because the ammo is cheap and plentiful, and from the roof of Costco I'd have plenty of time to just plug away at the zeds. However, if I'm fighting my way to Costco, carrying something that I wouldn't rely on for EDC seems ill-advised.
