.22's - The True Ultimate Zombie Killers

I got through half of "Zombie Diaries" last night and there is a lame scene where these British Military guys are all tact'ed out engaging zombies. This would've been cool, aside from the fact that the zombies moved slower than three-toed sloths. Seriously, a baseball bat would've sufficed. Maybe some light jogging, perhaps or a brisk walk.

Then, at the wee hours of the night I started thinking - .22's are the ULTIMATE ZOMBIE KILLERS!!!

Think about it:

1) Ammo is abundant. A few dozen bulk packs will be plenty good for awhile.

2) Zero re-coil equals easier shot placement to the head (required to take out zombies)

3) Most are reliable (most, I said - no offense intended toward you guys with Walther p22's j/k)

4) Light-weight, easy to carry.

AR's? M1's? Shotguns? 9mm/.45/.38/.40 pistols? All good enough - but that $70 rifle is truly the ultimate zombie killer.

I would probably go with my trusty Ruger 22 pistol, but I know you're right.

IMO (and it's just an opinion since there's no way to be sure on this), is that you won't have slow moving zombies unless they're the dead-rising ones... possibly regeneration style ala Resident Evil t-virus. Then a .22LR would be great since you'll have all the time in the world to set up your shot, take aim, and take them out in 1 or 2 shots to the head pretty easily.

But if you have regular people turning into 'zombies' where they are infected by some type of virus, thus their body still holding most gross motor skills (running for example), then I'd much rather have a larger caliber than a .22LR to stop them faster and more effectively. Even a 9mm in that case would be a better choice for me, but this is again my opinion.


BTW, the baseball bat idea is always good, but I just love it (really hate) when in movies they show people bashing zombies with a bat or some large bludgeon object, and blood cast off is going everywhere and they have no protection on (no mask over their mouth, no goggles, etc).

YES.

Fast moving zombies definitely need a little more - like a tactical missle, RPG, etc.

California gun laws don't take this issue into account.

I understand using a .22 rifle as SHFT weapon on varmint hunting .. but come on! Zombies?!? I d get something with more penetration power. I wouldnt rely on a .22 on swarming mobs out at 200+ yards. Would a .22 even penetrate the cranium at 200 yrds?

I'm thinking that while a semi auto .22LR is definately the best single choice for the standard zombie attack with some semi decent lines of sight, what really would be ideal is three guys...

1 guy with a Ruger 10/22 and lots of cheap ammo for primary defense
1 guy with a Benelli M4 for close range defense
1 guy with an RPG for crowds but mainly for shock and awe
