I considered getting one, but opted for a Marlin Papoose instead. The AR-7 is a neat idea but the buzz I heard was that it wasn't that well built. The Marlin is simply a cut-down 795, which has a good long-term reputation.

I had an original AR-7 that was an awesome little gun, but it is a "survival gun" and I would not consider it a gun that should be shot extensively. The design and concept is great, but I'm not convinced that it would hold up well under heavy use. Seem like a number of softer castings were used...

i bought one when it first came out

my serial was like us000122 and it jammed up on everything

i sent it back and they sent it back and all they did was file a little on the magazines which made them sharp so i was cutting my thumb when i loaded them it was jamming so bad that the breach area looked like i rubbed it on a cheese grater the barrel was polymer with a liner and the polymer was totally shredded due to the unejected casings plowing into it with each jam

i bought it at walmart and they took it back after i explained the situation they even refunded my dros no gunstore would do that i bet so i got lucky

i think they have made minor impovements since then but they lost my confidence

I bought one last year. I too have had feed problems. I'm thinking about sending it to Henry's for repairs.
                      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

AR-7s are so light because barrel diameter is very thin(the steel part). the entire barrel is shrouded in ABS plastic and feeding part looks quite worn after a few thousand rounds. Henry Arms advertises their model as the most improved/reliable version of the AR-7. Not sure if they improved the magazine design since 2002. My four mags have very weak springs, probably contributing to jamming issues.
The overall FTF/FTE rates are higher than my Marlin 70PSS Papoose. But the Papoose has its own weak point. Plastic trigger guard assembly will split if screw is overtightened.

The AR-7 is a unique design and will wow your friends at the range and turn heads. I no longer use mine because the novelty of assembling/disassembling the parts has worn off for me after 4-5 thousand rounds at the range.

I have one of the current production ones and I like it just fine. If you want one get one. It is what it is. It is a trunk/plane/backpack gun. It is not a gun you take to the range to put a few hundred/thousand rounds through for fun. If you do get one, I am of the camp that recommends you should always put the barrel on the receiver before you attach the receiver to the stock.

If you search around there should be more threads about the Henry AR-7 in this section.
