Best scope (under $100) for 10/22?

Hi all. I have a stainless Ruger 10/22 which I've recently put in a Tapco stock, and was wondering about what's a good scope to put on it. I'm not looking for a scope that costs more than the rifle, just a good scope I won't be tempted to swap out for a better one later on.

I've tried a number of different scopes on the rifle (I have several cheapie scopes around) and the one it wore before was a Simmons 4x28 fixed power scope. That one worked fine, but I wanted a variable power one and so I put on a Simmons Prohunter 4-12x50 on it which is not altogether satisfactory because the reticle crosshairs are pretty thick.

I'm also thinking about a red dot, but I think I'd prefer a red dot with a little magnification on it.

    Any suggestions?

You should be able to find many models available in Cabela's catalog. I bought one from them last year and it worked well.

I like DD's choice and I have that scope, it works well on my 22.
        I also have and like:
        Bushnell Banner 3-9x40
Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5x32 (on sale right now for $77 :-)
        Nikon ProStaff 4x32 and 2x7

On a side note, I also sometimes buy used Leopulds on EBAY for under $100
Go to Opticsplanet and choose rifle scopes and choose the search for $70 to $120 and you will see some great choices.

Try a Mueller - they have very clear glass and alot of folks use them on the 10/22. You can get a lower power or a 6 to 24X for around $100.00. Maybe not under but around.

Check out Primary Arms. Their stuff is chinese but it's good quality budget optics.

Mueller APV 4.5-14x40mm. They can usually be had for a little over $100, but they're well worth it. I've got one on my 10-22, and it's a great budget scope for a rimfire rifle. I don't know that I'd trust it on a larger caliber rifle, but it does the job the well on a .22.

Vortex Crossfire 6-24x44 from SWFA Here!

Great scopes and a bit big for what you're doing but it seems the route the smallbore guys go anyway. Has adjustable parallax down to 25 yards and out to infinity. I owned this and its a value scope at double this price.

I've had this scope. When mine arrived and was bad (zoom lever was stuck, I received GREAT customer service. The dealer I bought it from (OneClickShooting from eBay), asked that I cc mueller to let them know about it. I then mailed it back to him for a replacement.

Within 3 hours (no joke), Mueller wrote back and said if Alan (or whatever his name was, I don't recall) @ OneClick doesn't take care of me, they'll do it.

The second one arrived and I had no issues for 2 years.

The one scope I liked better was the Simmons Whitetail Classic Rifle Scope 6.5-20x 50mm Adjustable Objective Mil-Dot Reticle Matte

It has held up nicely on my AR w/o any fuss for ~2 years as well. The objective is visibly brighter (largely because of the larger objective lens) but you will need a riser to mount this on your 10/22.
~$100 when on sale @ midwayusa

Its really a 6-24x50 and will look HUGE on a 10/22 (large objective) but if you like the look its a great value.

Seems thats the route the rimfire guys are going anyway is slapping a giagantor scope on a little rifle with a .920 bbl.

Try one of these - a Hawke 3-10x44 for $44 on clearance:

Shop by Gun Models, like AR-15, Ruger, Remington and more for parts, including barrels, triggers, stocks, friends, bases, optic mounts, and more.

                              Center Point...

I have three, the one that has the AO is a much better deal (4-16X40 AO). Not big, I have one on a Marlin 60. I want to upgrade that rifle but the combination shoots so well that I can't bring myself to mess with it. The Center Point comes with rings for a standard dovetail and flip up lens caps, lighted reticle and the reticles are sort of a mil dot. Wally world... ~$70. I use one of these to test loads on several rifles and they have held up well.

My experience with cheap red dot's has not been good. Some had very large dots, some dots were blurry, some were prone to glare, some wouldn't hold zero.
