      KandyRedCoi,

I've never tried the VQ hammer nor the extractor cuz it wasn't necessary in my book but I did buy and used their SS barrel with the built in comp. Compared to the factory barrel it now shoots fantastic! The only other issues that comes up now and then are the cheap plastic/semi metal magazines.

For the spring and guide rods I just place 3 drops of Breakfree on each side and move the bolt back and fourth to disperse the oil on the rod. At least for that why spend money when you don't need to.

the hammer also helps with trigger pull, i find the pull to be too heavy
i also use breakfree for all my guns so we will see how it works

i want to do some more testing this week a more detailed test

btw i have the new gen metal mags with the 10 and the circle around it

          KandyRedCoi,

I usually find where the sear is and put a small amount of grease or molly paste on it to "slick up" the trigger pull a bit. I usually go more for postive ignition over a lighter trigger pull and NOT invite a mis-fire not that I'm saying your gonna have this issue. No matter what we all come accross some duds no and then.

I'm glad you have the newer mags! I haven't shot mine for a good while cuz right now I'm more into AR-15's currently and here in my area the drive to a range just to shoot 22's compared to the price of gas is important.

As it appears by your replies you gonna eliminate the bugs out of that rifle and your daughter is gonna have one hell of a rifle!

All it takes to make a 597 shoot like a dream is some sandpaper and about an hour of time.

First disassemble and polish the guide rods and tracks. 600 grit wet/dry followed by 800 or 1000 grit. when reassembling be sure to only tighten the guide rod screws finger tight. Too
tight and they will bow causing the bolt to bind during ejection.

Second disassemble the mag and slightly bevel the inside edges of the follower. The follower has very sharp edges that cause the spring to bind. I also polish the outside corners a bit. Again 600 grit works great for this. Dry lube the follower before assembling the mag. If you don't have a good dry lube, some cornstarch will work just fine.

Rimfirecentral has a sub forum dedicated to the 597. I suggest you do some reading there.

              Hope I helped.

Edit: there is a very simple and easy mod to make the trigger adjustable. The sear spring sits in a pocket in the trigger assembly, simply drill a hole through this pocket all the way through
the trigger guard and insert an allen screw. Voila instant adjustable trigger. I also put a small amount of graphite based anti-seize on the hammer and sear.

Check the spring tension on you hammer and feel it with your thumb....if it feels weak then it might need to be replaced. Also for the double feed issues get rid of the magazine and retry with a new one. The spring in the mag is too weak and most likely that's causing the double feeds.

Since you found a ding at the edge of the chamber it shows allot of dry firing so consider getting a new barrel and use snap caps to protect the chamber.

If your using/shooting CCI "Blazer" ammo then you should be fine as it basically the same as CCI "Mini Mag" without the copper coating.

                Good luck,

Dry firing is not a problem with the 597 as it uses a round firing pin that strikes just inside of the rim much like the cz.

That is a good question. Being a used gun it can be nearly anything. I would check the bolt face for burrs first. The only thing that comes to mind after that
is possibly the guide rods were tight enough to cause the bolt to ride high... the
firing pin strikes at the 12 o'clock position so knowing where the ding was would help.

                        KandyRedCoi,

Do the safe thing and get a pack of snap caps or gather up some used brass and use those. They make good cheap alternative snap caps.
